We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Me too. Occasionally in discussions over the last forty years I said the US needs to make things because self admiration won't suffice forever. Usually drew puzzled looks and made listeners uneasy.
Nice video. At over three minutes it wouldn't be a good for repeated use as a TV commerical.
How about US maker LaCrosse? Great boots. I've had 2 pairs of Burleys in 25 years and I tore the first pair. Now owned by a Japanese company but still made in Portland.
About nine years ago when I was still living in the UK, I went into one of those "huntin', shootin' and fishin'" outdoor shops that stock stuff like Barbour, Hunter and Orvis.
There was a display of Le Chameau boots on sale. The shopkeeper called them "French wellies" and said they were of very high quality. Though "on sale", they were not cheap but I bought a pair anyway.
I still absolutely swear by them, particularly in the late autumn and early spring here in the Ottawa Valley countryside.
Seeing that promotional video and the amount of labour involved, I now fully understand why they were expensive!
