We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
A friend sent this pic from Colorado yesterday. He was visiting Denver to see family, heard some slopes were open, rented some skis and boots and skied in his jeans. Arapahoe Basin.
Ouch! We got a little rain for the past 3 or 4 days -- very little. Most of the "storm" rolled past us just south a little and dropped it on CO. We are going to have a very bad summer for fire here. I can see dirt all the way to the top of the highest peaks--there are still some patches of snow. The snow melt has already passed through the rivers.
A-Basin generally tries to stay open until 4th of July weekend. IIRC they made it last year and, based on those photos, may make it this year. I'm not a fan of skiing in slush so it matters not to me. Was out at Canyons and Park City in Utah in mid-March and it was way too warm for skiing. Bummer.
I believe part of the reason, if not the entire reason, that other resorts in the Summit and Eagle area don't stay open is that they are located on National Park land and their permits require that they close in time for the elk migration.
Oh, BTW, I realize your friend didn't intend to ski but skiing in Jeans makes him what my daughters call, "A Joey". That's a big fashion no-no ;)
OK. Would you give up a great day on.the slopes because you only had jeans and became a "Joey." No offense, but tell your daughters to get a life. Maybe they need some Joey on their love, oops? life.
I'm too paranoid to go play in the snow in cotton trousers or jeans. I'd have stopped at REI/Sports Authority/Big5 and gotten a remaindered/clearance pair of something that would work in the snow.
OTOH, phuc phasion.

One and a half to two feet of new snow predicted to fall in Colorado mtns. today and tonight; above 10,000 feet, but that's a decent portion of the state's mountains.
That's our base for summer snow melt for water on the Front Range. No drought here!
