Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Confirmed by their lame attempts to label the Taliban both a terrorist groups and non-terrorist group. Reminds me of some of the stuff I used to hear when my kids were in junior high.
7th grade liars. Didn't they say that one of the reasons they were upset about Bibi accepting the House's invitation to speak was because they thought we shouldn't get involved in Israeli elections? But it turns out that an Obummer campaign operative is working to defeat Bibi (http://townhall.com/tipsheet/guybenson/2015/01/30/reports-obama-campaign-operatives-working-against-netanyahu-in-israel-n1950319)
Of course, the good news here is that Bibi is surging in his election (http://www.breitbart.com/national-security/2015/01/30/bibi-surges-in-israeli-polls/). Regulation:
Well, 1/3 right. Certainly the top heavy, expensive, intrusive over regulated state, that ties itself and the economy in knots, is a factor. But, he left out globalization which certainly is going to continue; I think of it as the great leveling. And, he failed to mention that the information/digital revolution is also exacerbating income inequality. It t is like a perfect storm for what we think of as the middle class. There is a huge asymmetry in knowledge and power between the regular folks and the Mandarin class. Without a robust middle class, Who is going to be the Taxpayer, Who is going to be the Consumer? Who is going to commit to a Mortgage, or an Education, or a Major Purchase, without some confidence in a reliable, steady, long term income?? Who is going to get married and have children? Doesn’t the contraction of mid level skilled jobs, suitable for the middle class, factor in? I’m not saying these jobs aren’t being created, rather that they are not being created as fast as they disappear Re: Greens and Biofuel
They are so entrenched in their belief that the world should work the way they think it should blinds them to any possibilities outside what they "know". One of the things they "know" is that greed is the main information in the price of something so it should either be discounted or used as a reason to beat up the "profiteer". In the case of biofuels, the evidence that they are a waist of resources took them years to finally come to the conclusion that anybody who looked at the proposition dispassionately knew immediately. One of the easiest ways to tell if a business makes sense is to look at whose idea it is and whose money will be spent on it. If biofuels (or bullet trains, light rail, solar power, wind power, etc.) were such a great idea, people would use their own money to try to make it work. It would cost the tax payer next to nothing. If it was good, everybody would receive the benefit. If it wasn't, the people who thought it was a good idea and put up the money would lose. And thus the value (price) of an investment contains the information on the soundness of the idea. Pretty elementary stuff. I have little hope that the Greenies or Lefties will ever learn it. Re: real middle class economics
One thing John Berlau didn't mention in his column about regulations is that they have a much bigger influence on small than large corporations. Large corporations have the resources to deal with them where smaller companies do not. Corporations that espouse regulations often use them to give themselves an advantage over their competition. Yes, they are able to spread the cost over tens of thousands or even millions of units which doesn't impact their competitiveness, since it might only be a few pennies.
Not only that, large corporations sometimes support regulations with which they are already in compliance and so will cost them less than their competition, or that they expect the regulation will be detrimental to their competition. Even if they don't support the regulation, they could have lawyers, engineers, and other resources that help them comply or evade the regulations, but smaller companies usually don't have those resources.
Al Gore Wants to Spend $90 Trillion to Create World Without Cars. If he includes private jets, I'll go along with it. Those things are just rich people's toys, disguised in most cases as business and written off, i.e. paid for by consumers/taxpayers. I might exclude air ambulances.
Al Gore Wants to Spend $90 Trillion to Create World Without Cars
I had no idea that he had that much money! But if he wants to spend his own money on such a interesting cause then I wish him good fortune. "Wealth inequality is a problem"
To the extent it is used by Marxist socialist it is indeed a problem. To the individuals who find themselves in the middle class or below it is not. In fact if tomorrow the numbers of wealthy people were to double as a result of their innovationa and hard work it would be a godsend for all the middle class and below. Furthermore wealth money and assets is not a zero sum game as the socialist would imply. There is the ability to create wealth and each of us can improve our life and lifestyle and increase our own wealth without regard to what the rich are doing. Ironically the measures and punitive regulations the left wants to implement to protect us all from wealth inequality will make it more difficult for the middle class and the poor to make a better life for themselves. This "wealth inequality" meme is right out of the Marx/Lenin playbook. Dartmouth banning alcohol, good thing they are not filled with clever, inventive minds.
Ending the green boondoggle, there's lotsa of tax payer dollars to be had and no one interested in closing the tap. Lifestyle liberalism - the new moral majority? Obama doesn't act like a president, why should be he be treated like one? Respect is earned. Should anyone be surprised that someone so infantile to say they are not bound by the laws and constitution, or has any obligation to work with Congress, find out he will be treated the same way.
Obama deserves to be treated like the waste of time he is. Berkeley: We are calling for an occupation of syllabi in the social sciences and humanities.
