Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Important, or just a sport-like distraction from the duties and strains of real life?


Getting away from all news and internet for 5 or 6 days is always interesting. To make it even more liberating, I leave my cell phone at home.


Sometimes I feel strongly that politics is important, and at other times I believe that they are all big government scoundrels and that America would be best off with a philosopher-king with perfect integrity, as long as it were me. I'd hate the job.

I think people have realized that there is no longer a "Democratic Party." Essentially, what exists now is a collection of leftwing wackos, Marxist/Socialists, environmental extremists, gay rights activists, those pushing drug legalization, and those pushing illegal immigration. Not a very wholesome or viable coalition for governing or getting anything done.

At the end of the day, does being aware of today's news, that will be forgotten or irrelevant in most cases in a month, really matter?
I enjoy a break.
I also enjoy getting back into the fray.
