Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a Joyous Protest Season

I am heading up to western MA to be with family and for our Christmas Mass, thence to Stowe with friends to ski, drink beer, chase girls, and get away from the intertunnels and all of the insane news about the protesting retards.


A special Christmas thanks to all American law enforcement. Cheers to you guys and gals. I'd be scared witless to do your jobs.

Anticipating huge stock market crash eventually. The growth is not real growth. Thank God I don't retire for a good long time. It will be messy for many.

I believe it was the economist Herb Stein who, back in the '70s, was asked why we had such high unemployment and he replied, we pay for it - referring to all the things you get for not working. I agree with JP Morgan that there is certainly a significant faction made up of baby boomers who are retiring, but I'm of the opinion that it is really less than many expect.

I agree with MissT that it will get nasty sometime in the future, but that is something that could be well out in the future. The money printing going on around the world could cause a huge currency crisis and inflation but after that all bets are off. On the other hand, with everybody printing money, I wonder if that may cancel out some of the bad effects - or rather make every economy look bad - but if EVERYTHING is bad, nothing is bad... :-/
