We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

More on Cuba

As I said yesterday, Cuba is an insignificant, God-forsaken 3rd world s-hole with the population of the state of Georgia and with a crappy, corrupt, and cruel government like most other crappy 3rd world countries. It does not deserve all this attention or all this debate. All we Americans want from Cuba is cigars (possible in the near-term) and some political justice for their people (possible eventually). The latter is of course what we wish for all terrible crappy countries which include most countries on the planet, but which we cannot provide for them.


As I have said, Cuba is just another Haiti. Same population as Haiti, too.

Cuban cigars are not all they are cracked up to be, based on pre-Castro production. See here http://www.cigaraficionado.com/webfeatures/show/id/The-Decline-of-Cuban-Cigars_7199 how poor quality has affected Cuba's post-Castro output. Then consider how the quality will further decline once the Castro regime increases production for US consumers who don't know better.

About 70-75% of Haitians are of predominantly African descent. The remainder of the population is primarily mulattoes, Europeans, Asians and Arabs.

Cuba is inhabited by mostly by whites (65.1%), while minorities include mulatto and mestizo (24.8%) and black (10.1%).

About 10 years ago wife and I decided to travel from Australia to Cuba to see if it was as bad as portrayed. Moreover, we wanted to see the country before Cuba and the US inevitability resumed normal relations and the place was smartened up.

No words can describe. The place was a dump and it must be worse by now. It will take the economic power of the West to restore the infrastructure and the hundreds of once magnificent residences in Havana. Cuba could never do it alone.

Hopefully, America's dreamers will visit the dilapidated wreck and see for themselves what a disaster was created in Cuba by socialism/communism.

Cuba may be a craphole but it is one that probably has agents through out the US government.

Thankfully, Obama didn't release Ana Montes, who was probably an agent from the start of her career in US intelligence. When she was finally caught in 2001, she was the US intel expert on Cuba.

And we should remember former State Department official Walter Kendall Meyers, another Cuban mole who is now serving a life term he and his wife, who were life-long (30+ years) agents for Castro.

Obama could have asked for the return of those living freely in Cuba and wanted for crimes committed in the US. Mostly leftists, of course. But he wouldn't. I think cop-killer Chesimard has links to the Weathermen and therefore Mr. Obama's friend Bill Ayers.

Interesting that the failure of Socialism is so obvious in Cuba, yet American progressives STILL can't see the destruction that is wrought!

Think of what the Cubans who fled Castro's regime have achieved in America and elsewhere, due completely to their hard work and ability, since most of them had to flee with only the shirts on their backs.

But I agree that the Cubans remaining there will need help to rebuild, if they're ever given the chance. I think that the hardest part will be to wean those who have had to survive 55 years of socialism and repression into depending on themselves...instead of the nannystate.
