Re: the Berkeley organic school lunch program--Hooray! In the town where I live, at least 50% of the moms are trophy brides with eating disorders so they don't cook and don't care that their offspring eat junk in the public schools. But schools should absolutely ban soda, candy from machines in school and candy and dessert fundraisers, and should serve fresh food. Kids like what they get exposed to, food-wise.

Modern kids have appalling food tastes because their mothers are too lazy to cook from scratch at home, and are either not willing or able to grow a garden. And even well brought up kids like my cherubs (ahem) develop lusts for garbage after discovering it in school. Heck, my dog prefers the mushy bagel in the street to my nutritious kibble sawdust!

But, bottom line, tho I wish my school served healthier food, dietary choices are formed in the home and are the parents' responsibility. And guys, if your gorgeous babe wife has an eating disorder and looks at the kitchen as if it were a toxic waste dump, you'd better learn to cook well so your kids develop better tastes.
