So much of what passes for "avant garde"(LOL) today is worn out, recycled and rehashed krapola from decades ago. The reality, that the industrial revolution has been morphing for at least 60 years, has gone over a lot of heads. And yet, these people fancy themselves as creative, original, visionary thinkers, and, good grief, even heroic.
Not, that I have any answers myself, but in my search, I have come to realize what backward looking dinosaurs they(academia, media, and the political class) are.

The article was not well titled. It is only about the BSA in Allentown, PA.

However, it wasn't the stuff about boy scouts that surprised me, it was the eye-popping statistic of the Hispanic population growing from 9% to 60% over the period of 20 years.

What is drawing so many Hispanics to Allentown? Is there a long term booming demand for unskilled labor?

I see. So you think it is more a relocation than a fresh influx of Hispanics? Is all of eastern Pennsylvania under similar assault?

I just looked up the demographics of several eastern PA cities.

Lancaster County is southcentral (south of Harrisburg)

Yes. The law is asinine, but the title is a bit misleading. You can throw away food but it must go in the compost pot or something instead of the trash. But even still, who is going to enforce it? They say the garbage collectors but I can't see them taking the time to do it. Furthermore, how will they do it? Get out a scale, weigh the garbage, then dump it out on the ground, and collect and weigh the spoiled food to see if it is over 10% by weight? If they just eyeball it and declare it over the limit, I would produce a log showing I had weighed it and it did not exceed the limit. Afterall who will the judge believe, someone with a written record and a scale or the eyeball of the garbage man?

And all this for a $1 fine? How much money will the city lose enforcing the ban? It is a stupid law from every angle. Incredibly stupid. One is left to wonder about the IQ of the people that passed this law.

Lefties... You just can't make this stuff up. It's all about the agenda. It has nothing to do with reason, justice, the environment, or anything else. It's tragic when somebody develops cancer as horrible as hers. And it's tragic when she chooses to die, too. I'm against euthanasia and suicide generally, but if someone wants to end his life - especially given her circumstances, I understand.

Kevorkian wasn't mentioned in the article but it reminded me of him. I see this as something very different than what he was doing. Getting a prescription to allow you to die when you want and then taking it is far different than asking someone to kill you.

this includes million dollar videos on how to prepare poultry correctly, and handle your cutting board, because we're too stupid to figure it out ourselves.

ANOTHER HUGE HYPOCRISY

the USDA condemned millions of lbs of beef this past year - sent to landfills under armed guard (afraid someone is going to steal something that is going in the trash?)

ask any trucker that hauls food - if the package is broken, dropped or cardboard box it's in, damaged in any way the food is "thrown out", even when there's no damage to the food inside.
THAT would save millions of lbs. of food going into the landfill.

This going to bite us in the butt. Most American's will be taken by suprise when this all collapses. It should have happened in the 70's when it would have been much easier to recover from. But our politicians and bureaucrats choose instead to put it off into the future by borrowing money and debasing our currency. Now after 50 plus years of tinkering with and manipulating our economic and monetary systems it now seems that no amount of tinkering and manipulation can stave off the inevitable. This would have been a major recession in the early 70's if our government had allowed it to work itself out. Now it is a mountain of debt, a maze of subsidies and special interest, an entire population of dependent and incompetent people and a clueless government.
We had some fortuitous strengths in 1929 that we don't have today. In 1929 about half of our population were living on or close to the land and could easily grow a lot of their own food and provide other necessities from the land. Our population was a tougher more resilient people most of them living in extended traditional families and dependence on the government was unheard of. Today about 2% of our population live on the land and the rest live at the end of a long and energy dependent supply line. If we were to have a depression exactly as deep and long as the great depression the effects on our population would be worse today then it was in the 30's. But this promises to be a much worse and much longer depression (Google "25 year depression" to see what many expect).
There is no time to waste. Our federal government needs to reverse course, cut spending, dramatically reduce the size of the federal government and cut taxes to the bone to encourage growth. The states must also cut their budgets and reduce their tax burden on businesses and the citizens. The list of needed reforms continues well past these first steps but the important thing to know is government
will not do any of these things. Government is like a crack addict who cannot simply stop their addiction to taxes and increasing bureaucracy. So the next great depression will happen and it will be worse and last longer then it needs to because of our governments ineptitude. You must prepare for it because our government will not.

It requires cheap and easy credit...that was not available in the 70's. And this will take everybody down, even the rich can't avoid the reckoning. Kondratieff's reward was to be executed by the Soviets as they felt it should only apply to that nasty Capitalism...not that wonderful Socialism.

Teacher's unions were never about the kids, they were about the teachers and administrators. It's about time somebody put a stop to this lunacy. We spend more money per pupil than almost every country in the wold yet the performance of our schools is among the worst while teachers and administrators are able to retire at age 50.

It's like every socialistic scheme - the poor, who are supposed to be the cause celebre of the political class get shafted and the rich make out like bandits. The more socialistic it gets the larger the population of shaftees and the smaller the population of rich.

Turkey allied itself with Germany in both world wars...is there some magical, mystical reason they did not suffer repercussions for their position? Does anyone really think they will be of any use to peace in the M.E. now?

Half right. The Ottoman Empire allied itself with Germany in WW1. Consequence: loss of empire, with only Turkey remaining. Turkey was neutral in WW2, and rightly suffered no negative consequences for its neutrality.

As for myself, I no longer see any need to avoid angering Turkey. Turkey refused access to Iraq during the 2003 Iraq War. Its actions toward Israel in the last 5 years, such as the flotilla, are decidedly unfriendly. Ergodan is a Muslim theocratic despot. Turkey is today an ally in name only. Unless you happen to like the Muslim Brotherhood.

Time to give armed support to the Kurds, and if this results in Turkey losing some its territory, so much the better.

Problem with that is the batch in Kobane is largely PKK, a Marxist group on the State Department's Bad Boy List for several bombings in Turkey and has been known to take shot or three at the "good" Kurds.

Then there's Ukraine with the need to keep an eye on the Black Sea and an administration that is keeps hoping they can declare a peace dividend.

I always like Herr Doctor Krugman's finding out about the opinions of Canadians about their healthcare system - not precisely what Herr Dr. Krugman anticipated they would be. After that I decided that Herr Dr. Krugman is always good for comedic relief.
