We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Common Core and Common Lunch: The ‘Common Calorie’ Revolt- Schools and students fight the tasteless, small lunches required by Michelle Obama’s signature initiative.
Where is it written that the Feds have power over tater tots?
Many of the dietary assumptions behind the new school lunches are simply incorrect. And worse they are calorie restricted meals designed for the 20% or so who are obese. Most children are not obese or overweight and feeding them calorie restricted diets without regard for what they actually need is akin to child abuse.
My suggestion for school lunches is to allow the private sector to fill this need. Something along the lines of having a buffet style meal service where the food is provided each lunch time by a restaurant in town that specializes in this. You could have chinese food day, Mexican food day, American food day, etc. with different restaurants "catering" on their assigned day. Totally outsource the lunchroom.
My kids eat plenty of veggies. At home. Because I prepare them attractively and edibly.
Males, and females with athletic pursuits do not get required protein at school breakfast or lunch. My solution is to kill fed and state in education. Period.
My 16 yr old is ready to quit school because she's a math pprodigy-- and they are requiring her to take remidial math. And 99% of the kids have slacker mentality. No child left behind means no child gets ahead.
You ask: Where is it written that the Feds have power over tater tots?
That is written in the paychecks of the "Law Enforcement" who will deal with anyone who dares defy the edict. As long as that paycheck keeps comin' in...
I VUS CHUST DOINK MEIN CHOB!!!
We don't NEED no steenkin' oath to the Constitution...
Anyone else notice thst it took a billion or so increase to the lunch program, in order to INCREASE carbs served?
Carbs are the cheapest, easily accessible foodsource.
Its protein (meat) that is the most expensive and practically voided from the new lunch program.
And does the school attended by the First Girls serve meals that meet the First Lady's mandated standards? To quote Sister Joan: "...what you do not live, you have no right to require".
