Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Death


Doctors get used to death. As with pastors and undertakers, it's a routine aspect of life.

People always make jokes relating to their line of work to deal whatever stress or bs the work creates. I bet most people would be horrified at the jokes undertakers make to each other. They're probably funny as long as it's not about someone you know.

I hope Mr. Emmanuel never hears about my friends, both 93, who play in a bluegrass band and are about to embark on a two-week, cross-country trip.

Death is as natural as rain. But, repetitive exposure to death and suffering takes an emotional toll. Getting "used to it" or emotional numbing is not the absence of a problem, it is a problem.
