We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Interesting, so Central park was a swampy wetland. I wonder how many of the uber Progressive/Enviro types that infest Manhattan would protest to return it back into a wetland? Probably not many since they are never for environmental regulations that inconvenience themselves.
Gateway Pundit: 100% of Dem Senators Vote for Late-Term Abortion up to Nine Months of Pregnancy
QUOTE:
Text of bill: "Birth control is a critical health care service for women. Ninety-nine percent of sexually active women use birth control at least once in their lifetimes, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention declared it one of the Ten Great Public Health Achievements of the 20th Century."
http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c113:S.2578:
The following restrictions on the performance of abortion are unlawful and shall not be imposed or applied by any government:
(1) A prohibition or ban on abortion prior to fetal viability.
(2) A prohibition on abortion after fetal viability when, in the good-faith medical judgment of the treating physician, continuation of the pregnancy would pose a risk to the pregnant woman's life or health.
This just restates current law. After viability, the government has an interest, and can restrict abortion, unless there is a risk to the woman's life or health.
"Everything Is “Amnesty”: At the same time, the unrealistic and hyperbolic overuse of the term “amnesty” often makes it impossible to have a reasonable discussion of what to do about illegal immigrants."
So if we allow them to stay and to bring in relatives and have a path to citizenship that isn't amnesty? Perhaps we just don't understand Washington speak. To me "no amnesty" would mean they must either be deported or go to jail AND that all other crimes they committed while here would be prosecuted. The "no amnesty" crowd wants them to stay with no punishment and to fogive all other crimes they committed while here. At the same time if you or I fail to pay our taxes or lie about our income we will face prosecution. If we use someone elses ID or receive welfare benefits under false pretenses we will be punished for it. But the "no amnesty" rules allow the illegals to avoid this. Even if an ilegal had 10 DUIs and driving without a license the "no amnesty" myth allows that to be wiped from their record and they can get a drivers license. But don't overuse the "amnesty" word because no one is suggested we actually give them "amnesty" don'tcha know.
Reclaim state sovereignty? Easy just say no to federal money, however, telling the tax payers they will have to either pay or do without is never popular. BTW, Hudson should read Article I, Section 5 of the US Constitution.
I'll take Warren, et al, seriously when they start penning articles about how to maximize the taxes paid on your 1040 and place all their money in either Detroit municipal bonds or California high speed transit bonds.
I hate to be a broken record if I have said this in another of our discussions, but the Cowboy commandments should say 7. No MURDER, not No Killin. Killin is fine in defense and to put food on the table. Murder is never ok. Small difference in wording. BIG difference in meaning.
