We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin was sentenced Wednesday to
10 years in prison for bribery, money laundering and other corruption
that spanned his two terms as mayor — including the chaotic years after
Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005.
...farmers harvesting hay may be exempt from needing a CWA permit only if they follow NRCS Conservation Practice Standard No. 511: four pages of criteria covering timing of the harvest, moisture content of the hay, length of the cut hay, stubble height and much more.
In 1985 I met a gal in our local university. She was a resident of WA State, but she had come to MT to "work with" a committee to locate and put a numerical value to every drop of water in the state of MT. Both coming up in wells, and running in streams, lakes, etc. The local democrats have now created a water database
The prosecution asked for 15-20 years. The judge's thinking astonished me.
Before announcing the sentence, Berrigan indicated she would "downwardly depart from guidelines" and that "sentencing imposed should reflect Nagin's ability to harm the public again."
"Judge Ginger Berrigan determined that Nagin did not have a leadership role in the criminal conspiracy, saying all defendants are "equally culpable."
"Mr. Nagin's crimes were motivated in part by a deeply misguided desire to provide for those closest to him," she said.
Hmmm.... One wonders if she gives the same consideration to all thieves if they are only trying "to provide for those closest" to them? And if you are not the ringleader you should get a reduced sentence as well? If you are not the kingpin you are somehow less responsible for your actions?
Or is there a different standard for the little people?
under sentencing guidelines that are or mimic the federal sentencing guidelines, stealing to provide for family results in a downward departure, being a ring leader results in a greater sentence. assuming you read the judge's order and explanation and facts supporting (meaning, no you didn't read it because you implicitly trust the media when it reports on politicians you don't like and everyone is too lazy to read or link to the order), what, exactly, is wrong with the sentence?
It reminds me of that astutue comment someone made; "the radical muslims want to kill you, the moderate muslims want the radical muslms to kil you".
Israel either has to accept that the enemies at their doorstep will forever keep trying to kill them or accept the fact that they must go to war and push them back and make their country more secure. I can't imagine living in a narrow strip of land within easy reach of the enemies weapons while the enemy fires rockets at you. Sooner or later one of the terrorist groups will get a bigger weapon and kill thousands in in one fell swoop. The radical Arabs/muslms have been at war with Israel since 1947 and the moderate Arabs/muslims are willing conspirators in that war. Where is the Israeli army and determination that won the six day war?
