We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Obama's Katrina

It's the hurricane of illegals.


Not an Act of God, but an act of governments. Mexico is funneling these people through, and the administration doesn't really mind.


I care more about the status of people who attempt to immigrate legally. It can take many years, even if you are a nurse, an MD, or a Physics PhD, and even then it might not be OKed.


Don't we have enough unemployed Americans? Or have we given up on them by giving them food stamps, welfare, and disability? When you quit having citizenship expectations of people, they often quit having those expectations of themselves. A sad fact of human nature, especially for the weak-willed or the rent-seeking.

In all the Seattle 'debate' about increasing the minimum wage to $15/hr (which wasn't much really, as the local Dem/Prog consensus had already decided that raising it was a 'good thing'), I'm not aware of ANY commentary linking the 'need' for a increase to the depressing effect of unlimited immigration on wages for service jobs. Seems a straightforward supply/demand calculation, but one that would set one Dem/Prog interest group against another. Can't have THAT.

Uncontrolled and massive immigration both legal and illegal will collapse our already bankrupt welfare system. I suggest we end it now. Simply end it. Send notices to everyone getting food stamps and other forms of federal welfare that it's over and beginning next month you are on your own. Send notices to everyone federal worker in the welfare business that they are fired effective in two weeks. State specifically that it is because of the hordes of illegal immigrants invading our country. If we must have open borders, and it seems we will, then lets not rape the citizens with more confiscatory taxes and losses of liberties to reward the illegals. For better or worse let's let people take care of themselves.

Since this latest, magnified surge of illegal aliens, mostly underage & therefore an even more onerous burden, hit our southern border I've been wondering why we don't just either keep them out - or if they get over, just shove them back across the line,into Mexico. The Mexican gubmut is responsible for those illegals being able to reach our border & the prime perpetrator of this & many other huge problems for the USA. Mexico is not anything close to a friend or ally of the USA. Mexico for decades has been an unwelcome burden & irresponsible neighbor to the USA. It is not a question of race, skin color, etc. It is a simple question of legality. We citizens of the USA cannot afford financially or otherwise to be the

Close the border to all trade, traffic, and people. Mexico will have the illegals back home within a week.
