Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Not all suffering is mental illness

How many times have I said that here? Life is traumatic, at times it is a vale of tears. That's not illness.

One of my husband's uncles was wounded in WW II, in the Italy campaign. He returned home, married, and lived a 'normal' life. Not until his funeral did we hear more of his story. There were many nights he would wake his wife because of his nightmares about the war. His wife and worked through it, and had a good life. Perhaps he was fortunate he wasn't victimized by the well-meaning.

That being said, PTSD is out there, and needs to be properly diagnosed and treated. But that won't happen if the treatment centres are swamped by all and sundry who have been improperly diagnosed.

I know nothing about combat/ military but I would think that not having to ask permission to shoot back when fired on, would lessen the amount of PSTD.
