We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
At a recent meeting with two dozen Chicago leaders, some Democrats, some Republicans, I asked a simple question, “Can anyone name a significant American achievement in world affairs over the past five years?”
The room was completely silent. Since the group had traveled widely, I posed a second question, “Have any of you visited countries where relations with America are better than five years ago?” Again, silence.

Whether this is a problem depends on your personal sensibilities. I'm pretty comfortable with guns -- my dad was a cop while I was growing up, I've been hunting since the age of twelve, and I have a concealed-carry permit today -- but I have to say this would make me uneasy. Why? Well, because carrying uncased rifles around in a fast-food restaurant is not normal.
This is TRVTH.
Those asshats playing militia (the idiot on the left couldn't run a 100 years without keeling over dead from a stroke) with assault rifles in a restaurant are providing fodder to the gungrabbers and is why we're always behind on the public relations war.
That's a military-styled rifle, not an "assault weapon"; if it truly is an a.w., it's illegal in civilian hands (to the best of my knowledge). A.w.s can fire semi-auto and a 3-round burst, and some fire full-auto (ttbomk). I do completely agree with your comment otherwise.
“Can anyone name a significant American achievement in world affairs over the past five years?”
Sure, easy! We have spent more money we don't have than anyone, anytime and anywhere on earth!! Top That Michelangelo!
Open Carry. Depends on the location. Frankly in a urban area leaving an expensive rifle in the truck is risky. Some people might be like me with a camera, I always like to have a camera nearby and ready in case someone or something that really needs to be shot goes by.
Folding knives are a tool, I've skinned a lot of cable sheaths with my Buck 110. Had it on my belt several times when I found it necessary to duke it out, and it stayed there because I'm not stupid. Today in a lot of areas, well some people don't stand up and act like a man. They go home or to the car and get a firearm. Worlds gone crazy. But a knife fight between two men, either is a lot of posturing or both get cut. One guy pulls a knife and the other doesn't, one guy gets cut and the other goes to jail. But in NYC they are not talking about restricting blades from minors, they want to dis-arm, no de-tool , spell check didn't like that last one. At any rate what sort of anal jackass thinks that taking any sharp objects away from adults is a viable plan?
I am aware that pulling a knife in a fight is likely to put you in jail. However pulling a knife in an assault is self defense. It doesn't matter why the assailant choose to assault you, it could be he didn't like you in his bar, doesn't like your white skin, wants your wallet or he thinks you looked crossways at him. If you have ever watched MMA you can easily discover what happens when a stronger or more skilled opponent takes you to the ground. What's your ground game? Mine is to use a pocket knife to stab and cut his arm and/or leg as many times as I can before he hastily dismounts.
There's a lot of "it can't happen here" that is happening here, so it's illustrative to look to the former British Empire to see the direction we are traveling towards.
In 1996, knife-carrying was made presumptively illegal, even without the "offensive" intent to use the weapon defensively. A person accused of the crime is allowed "to prove that he had a good reason or lawful authority for having" the knife when he did
British subjects and foreign tourists have discovered unleashing the dreaded pen-knife can result in criminal prosecution; a female American tourist was charged with "carrying an offensive weapon" for using her small knife to fend off attackers, a British businessman was lucky to have been released on a suspended sentence after saving himself from likely death in a subway attack by using a sword-stick (blade concealed within a cane). Sword-sticks are now illegal and banned in the UK.
The principal of "self-defense" is dead in England, all subjects are expected to acquiesce in their death in a lawful manner, corpses found to have fought back or to not be carrying the required documentation will be fined. So a minimum balance must be maintained in the bank at all times. This requirement is waived for all persons not nature born or with felony convictions.
That's why in this country, the 2nd Amendment defenders won't give an inch.
