We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

"Food Stamp Recipients Outnumber Women Who Work Full-Time"
Not sure if the writer of this article had a point. If he did, I missed it. The number of food stamp recipients probably also outnumbers the endangered spotted owls also. Who cares?
Anti-microaggression, the witch hunt of the progressives? Or is a sign screaming racist/sexist/whateverist is running its course?
Banning junk food, an object lesson that accepting federal funds leads to the federal nose.
Sounds like NYC's welfare department is getting ready to return to the good old days of multiple checks going to case worker's PO box, etc.
Will have to say locally, the IRS and US Attorney have been visibly cracking down on fraudulent returns.
Wonder if that pot dispenser could be adapted for premixed cocktails, bottled beer ,etc in say a private club or bar. Though not sure I want all the details off my license kept in the machine's memory.
re Over-Regulation is strangling innovation — and even safety
No doubt. Just take cars as an example. Makers are being forced to build them smaller and lighter to meet CAFE standards, and that makes them more dangerous to drive. And then their are seat belts. True, they can save lives but they can also insure one is crushed to death in an accident.
In the county where I live by demand of the people every county employee has their name, title and salary printed in the local newspaper once a year. Makes for interesting reading. We should do the same with everyone collecting and form of welfare. Print their name and how much from each different welfare slush fund they get. But in addition offer to split half the recovered illegally acquired welfare payments if a whistleblower can prove that the recipient was not qualified for it. For example out here in the West it is not uncommon for legal and illegal aliens to claim the same children on their tax returns and their welfare applications. Easy to do because the kids don't have SSNs and their names are somewhat fluid, just change the surname to fit the adult claiming parentage of the child. Gets the perp big bucks in EITC, SNAP, and other forms of welfare. Maybe a little sunshine on this would not only catch some of the crooks but wake up Americans to how much welfare the professional bums actually get.
