re home mortgage interest deduction. Our economy is already so full of distortions created by tax policy that I find it curious how "economists" keep talking about this one. let's get rid of corporate subsidies to GE et al before we screw up the housing market AGAIN. I also find it annoying when getting to keep some your own money via a deduction is considered a tax expenditure, let's be clear here, the government is not "spending" anything when it collects fewer taxes. economists and liberals say "it amounts to the same thing", to which I call BS. equating keeping your own money to the government not taking your money flies in the face of the concept of self-government and is deliberately sowing the seeds of confusion among the unthinking public. do you really think the 1% ers won't incorporate their homes and still take the deduction? this is just a proposed money grab that will once again stick it to the middle class and screw-up the one asset many hardworking middle class Americans still have, their home. Wall Street has long coveted the trillions of dollars in the housing market and this strikes me as a way for them to get their hands on it, crash the market (again), discourage homeownership and make us a nation of renters, with your "local" hedge fund as landlord. when that happens watch all the gov't "savings" from the end of the mortgage interest deduction(for homeowners) fly out of the treasury as subsidies to Wall Street landlords.
