Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Super-Cheap Microscope"- this is how academia in America is SUPPOSED to work, using science and/or engineering to produce items that benefit the entire world (except for current manufacturers of microscopes, of course, who may need to join with the "buggy-whip" manufacturers and other obsolete organizations) Even if this group does not patent this device, this type of manufacturing will become more common, as 3-D printing becomes common...
"Stolen Valor: What it Should be Teaching America about its Veterans"
First of all, I understand why some young veterans might get upset about the dummies pretending to be soldiers. I pretty much get that. However, ex-soldiers have no supervisory powers over civilians or anyone else. And, as ex-soldiers, they should know that. They should also have the self discipline to control their emotions in such circumstances. It would be enough to say; "Hey, that guy is a fake, pretending to be a soldier." Maybe file a report with the local recruiting office, the college administration and the local police to forewarn the authorities if there is a reason to suspect that some fraudulent activity is going on beyond the wearing of a uniform. But that is all. The civilian veterans who harassed the civilian fake soldier were way out of line and deserved to be cited for harassment. I do not sympathize with them, they have no excuse. In fact, to me, they exhibited behaviour characteristics that should have precluded them from serving in the first place. Have the standards been watered down so much? If so, that is criminal bordering on treasonous. This issue of people posing as soldiers, sailors and marines has been greatly overblown. Wearing medals you didn't earn is an irritating habit that goes way back. Lots of ex-servicemen are guilty of it. Mostly officers in my experience. Wearing ribbons incorrectly is another widespread habit of long standing and darn near everyone who decorates himself with partial uniforms is guilty of this. Heck, if there is any ex-serviceman at any parade who isn't violating some uniform regulation or another, I would be very surprised. It just isn't a big deal. Naturally, there will be some folks who want to pretend. Let them. The worst thing that can happen is they get snatched up by the MP's and shipped off to war. Oops. Come to think of it, if you believe this issue requires congressional action, just call the MP's to report an awol soldier next time you see a poser wearing a uniform. That should be fun. What if he dressed up as a clergyman, doctor, cop, or maybe a judge? Any problem with that?
No, I would not have a problem with people just "dressing up" as you put it. Dressing up, absent some nefarious purpose, is
harmless. Of course, pretending to be a cop or a doctor and arresting people or operating on people brings it to another realm. It's called criminal behaviour. Billy O'Reilly: who knew?
Socialist USA: these people are insane idiots. Revolutionary communism, with a little c; Ayers "mind blowing ideas", Dohrn, his wife, Ratner, Mumia Abu-Jamal, Angela Davis--amazing that all of these smart people can have such dumb assed ideas--too much lysergic acid in my opine. I am not saying that the world does not need a little changing, or a lot; but i do believe that it should change for the better, and not into some perverse utopian hell as Imagined by our betters. Putin: It is just a matter of time before the shit hits the fan. The rooskies are going to make a serious move sooner or later. Putin, who may be a fool, but certainly is a badass, is just testing the waters; a small bite, a nibble, then CHOMP! Wait and see. One can never show weakness to power; can never let the bully know you are a pussy and won't fight. These people did not grow up with who i did, where i did. Racism: A card so overplayed and worn out that it is easy to read every time it is dealt from the deck. And did i mention that from all of its overuse, it is transparent too?. Oh, Bird Dog, you have struck a nerve today. Off topic.
On Monday the Free Beacon posted a story that the Obama budget called for elimination of the entire Tomahawk and Hellfire missile program by 2016. I haven't been able to find any other verification other than links from that story. It seems impossible that a story, if true, not generated any other coverage. http://freebeacon.com/obama-to-kill-tomahawk-hellfire-missile-programs/ Heard anything? If true and if in a year or so Putin decides to take back the old Soviet empire in Eastern Europe what are the US Armed Forces supposed to use to stop him, harsh language? (to quote Pvt. Frost) I'm telling you Obama is really the Manchurian Candidate. He was stealthily placed into position of leadership and pushed into the presidency for the purpose of destroying this country. I know! I can hear it now. Crazy paranoid conspiracy theory. But riddle me this: If he was actually the Manchurian candidate out to destroy our country what would he do different from what he has already done?
He has destroyed our econmy. His massive increase in the deficit has set us up for an economic collapse followed by a massive Zimbabwe style inflation. He is making intentional massive cuts in our military readiness includng firing unprecedented numbers of senior military leaders who would be invaluable if a real war were to break out. He has divided our country by race and political preference for the purpose of fostering a climate of repression. He has converted federal government departments into oppresive regulation producing taxing and spending oligarchs. The list of high crimes and misdemeanors goes on and on, but what more could he do to convince you that his intent is to destroy this country? Yeah. But is the report true?
I've posted on my blog and if this isn't true then I have to rescind the post. The link seems good, it goes to a pdf that seems valid but if this is actually the position and proposal of the POTUS then where is the hue and cry? Put this together with the A-10 program elimination, what do we have left? Re: Starting a Business.
Q: How do you start a small business in Quebec? A; You start a big business and wait... Re: coat hangers
Another fine column by Matt Walsh. In his section on how abortion supporters have very confused logic, I would add this: I can almost guarantee that when any woman is pregnant with a wanted child, she called it a baby from the first moment her condition is known. Even women who support abortion. When she wants an abortion instead, it's not called a baby. So apparently, whether it is a baby/human being/life depends on the desires of the mother. I would also add that given the array of inexpensive or free contraceptives available today, a woman is unlikely to get pregnant if she doesn't want to. Put another way, a woman is pregnant either because she wanted to get pregnant or doesn't care enough to be responsible. For this, a baby can die and people who abhor the practice - including those who are willing to adopt the baby at birth - have to pay for that death. http://www.newser.com/story/184204/fugitives-home-for-18-years-key-west-houseboat.html

I wonder if Williams College will ever admit their almost-identical incident was a hoax. |
