Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

College Grads Now Doing the Jobs High School Grads Used to Do. Probably not doing those jobs as well. From what I read and hear, today's college grads as a whole are less knowledgeable and far less competent in life skills than the high school grads of a few decades ago. Correct me if I'm wrong.
College graduates have always done what high school graduates used to do. We call those college graduates former Humanities majors. As many a humanities major and professor is quick to point out, such fields of study are not to imbue job skills. If no new job skills from the college education, then in the job market a college grad is just a high school grad with no experience. But with attitude.
Look it can't be both ways. The argument on the one hand that college is not job training but gives one a richer intellectual life is not compatible with the lamentation on the other that college grads are doing jobs that can be done by high school graduates. No new job skills, no employability difference introduced by college. It could be that a very employable high school grad spends time in college but the key here is whether the time in college improved their initial employability. And whether the future potential in employment was improved over the experience lost due to not working in a field during college? Wife sees this daily in her grocery store. She does HR, hires both currently enrolled and graduated college students, and all have the mentality to be CEO's by week's end.
The rare one that does work out\work is a Godsend, but very rare - most are (per her rants) "Whiny, lazy, lay-abouts, whom want it all without any work, then cry when they see the first check" Amazing how far we have fallen - with long-term unemployment hanging, ANY work is better than none, and I still got IT friends out of (long-term) work for YEARS... Hey, maybe you can get them lazy layabout IT pals of yours to call the wife and start humping groceries. I'm sure they will appreciate the opportunity to better themselves more than those whiny kids do.
re NYC: City’s restaurant grades all about fines – not health
Indeed. Or else the inspector's palm wasn't properly greased when he entered the establishment. I saw the Per Se article a couple of days ago. All the violations cited were ticky-tack. A 'soiled' dish rag? Was it black with dirt or did it have a tiny smudge? It is a subjective call. There was no mention of things that would concern me, like cockroaches or rodent droppings. The damage to the establishment may be in calculable. The tone of the comments was that the readers now thought the restaurant was too filthy to eat in. It was a good illustration of a news article being taken as gospel by the public. Inspectors have to find 'something' to prove they are doing their jobs. Years ago, the facility I managed was subject to an OSHA inspection. The inspector found one violation, a broken step ladder. I asked if we could just throw it away, and he replied if I did he would have to find something else wrong with the plant. Inspectors are generally small, petty people with enormous power. They can kill or cripple your business. I had to endure a parade of them every year. It figured in the equation of leaving corporate America. I hated the sons of bitches. Would treat the CT police story with great caution. though I won't surprise me if a round up comes in lower on the priority list than chasing skate boarders in the park.
The D's out of ideas? Think not, they are quite inventive (as the food stamp story shows) at keeping their base happy. Though locally the the R's have showed the same tendency. Don't think e-cgs will be acceptable when taxed, once you have a taste of control, its hard to resist gluttony. Besides its great diversion from fixing pot holes, pension shortfalls, etc. Trigger warnings, the Bruce link, fainting couches will be the new hot home fashion trend. "New Yorkers Bought $1 Bil in Florida Property Since De Blasio Win"
There goes the neighborhood. Well, FL was lost long ago I guess. But nothing worse than New Yorkers and Californians moving into free America. The set to righting the terrible local culture. Worse they go on and on about who wonderful Cali or NYC are and we are all a bunch of rubes. Problems is the bastards won't move back. If it is so great, why did you leave and why now, retired, won't you move back to your wonderland. If they think it is so wonderful, they should bloody well live there unless they have a job that temporarily has them operating remotely. Otherwise, STFU. And stop voting to ruin here like you did there. Wife and I took our 1-year-old son with us to a nice restaurant, and had to wait and wait and wait, and when sat down and we'd ordered he started to cry. I took him out, let my wife eat, and then she walked him while I ate.

Yep, those darn Dems are buying up more votes with food stamp money. A reckless expenditure of tax dollars. Unlike the Repubs who buy them with flood insurance subsidies. Flood insurance you can at least eat if you have to. Erp, wait a sec, I may have that mixed up a little. Here’s your new head of border security.
It’s that time of year again. My apologies for being a few days late posting this piece. The vivid pictures in my mind go back to Mardi Gras 2001 in Seattle. That was the night that a newly installed police chief had his men form a barrier around a group of black men who had attacked a white woman on the streets of Seattle. Obeying the orders from their new chief, they formed a barrier shoulder to shoulder and stood and watched. They also remained standing when a young white man jumped in to try to help her fend off her attackers and was beaten so badly that he later died. Why do I mention this today do you ask? Well folks because that man is now your new chief of border protection. Also, at the same time under this corrupt administration which is today’s government we have combined the supervision of customs. So that now border patrol and customs are all managed by this same person. As you can deduce by reading his wiki entry here, from the beginning in 1970 when he was drafted into the army to stand at the foot of the stairs and salute the president when he boarded the presidential chopper. Yeah, boy, that sure was the luck of the draft draw wasn’t it? You think maybe coming out of family in Florida he had other connections? Connections that would later serve him well while being the man in charge of customs? And then of course there is the link to Janet Reno and Clinton. But, hey not to worry he was reprimanded for that stand and watch order he gave in 2001. The story is here. While that evening’s local news showed raw video which we watched. Video in which you could actually see the police standing and watching as the blacks murdered a white male. That video was only shown for about 24 hours and cannot be seen today, I have listed a link to a similar event. But, not to worry, because there was this famous photo. Famous only to the association of professional photo journalists. It won the award for best professional news photo that year--except it was never published. Why is that you ask? Well because it clearly showed a white woman being attacked by black men while the white police stood by and watched. Nice eh. Well not to worry, because now as I said, this guy is in charge of your borders!. By the way--tell me again just exactly which border security system that Boeing built -- you know the system that does not work, but for which, we are still paying. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gil_Kerlikowske http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seattle_Mardi_Gras_Riots http://womensenews.org/story/rape/020412/debate-grows- over-use-sexual-assault- photo#.Ux45eihBA20 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQMhZwB3TXE This video is only a portion of what went on-- I am sure our borders patrols will be just as successful in defending our country as this bunch of police were in protecting the people on the street that night! With this new appointment it is clear that the powers to be in Seattle do not want a secure border. |
