Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Obamacare, no one can make it work and it causes people to stop working due to high marginal tax rates. "Job Lock", baby.
Obamacare is amazing. It is so oft said that higher taxes won't cause high income earners to cut back on work even though some might even say they'd earned enough money. But, now, low, barely above poverty, low income earners will cut back on work to avoid the effective higher tax of losing the Obamacare subsidy. Obamacare is there anything it can't do? It's made Paul Krugman a supply sider. Higher taxes causes individuals to work less, thus breaking the "job lock". Unless you are a wealthy high earner, those people can't stop working no matter how much the extra income will be taken by the government, because...just because. Dear, maggies farm,
This is a FYI: Something is wrong with your maggiesfarm.anotherdotcom.com site. It comes up very quickly, but then, it goes to a solid white screen. I've tried re-loading, but to no avail . . . it always goes to the same solid white screen. My wife tells me it's a simple "code" fix. I am not that savvy. Thanks, Dr. Jay That started about Thanksgiving, here and at other websites, like Outside the Beltway, Althouse. So I think it is something in the ads.
Quick fix is to stop the loading as soon as the page text shows up. It happens in my small older browser Omniweb but not Safari. It's something in javascript as I made it stop here by selectively shutting off javascript for maggiesfarm. Omniweb lets you do that on a domain basis. At Maggies, I can still comment with javascript off. Other sites I have to kill the page load before, I assume, the ad code kicks in. But since I use a small browser that isn't fully supported anymore, I figure it is my cross to bear. BTW, this happened at least once before around the same time frame then after a few months went away. That is why I figured it was something in the ad code rather than the blog code. I too have been having a problem the last few days in loading MF. But, then again, we here in MT have had our internet taken over by a new CHARTER company. You know the ones that have been found to be corrupt and forced out of other states? Our internet is so slow now it is worse than the old dial up used to be. But, interestingly: our bill says February is the month they are going to upgrade the system. Apparently not doing too well with that project! Anyone else having problems getting on/off or going slow R E A L S L O W ?
Might be a way to stop conversations all together! kludge has been around a long time in aviation. It's a widely known but never acknowledged quick and dirty fix, outside the tech orders and regs, of questionable safety, done in some kind of bad situation that makes the kludge better than doing nothing. A good example (from 50 years ago) is using a smooth dime or nickel (I can't remember which) to cap off a broken brake line in a DC-6 when you're stuck in some hell hole without parts.
"Employers must “self-attest” that ObamaCare not behind staffing decisions – under penalty of perjury"
This is bizarre. Sounds like something right out of the old Sovist Union. My thinking here in a nutshell is that the 0bama regime does not want people laid off due to 0bamacare to be publicly acknowledged. ie It's an attempt to minimize bad publicity.
So.... instead of laying them off due to 0bamacare, they are laid off because of 'the economy' or 'changing business conditions' or any other excuse that sounds plausible. It won't stop the layoffs. Just change the reason for them. On a more serious note, where do they get the legal authority to impose such a rule out of the blue like this? It is astounding to me there has been no push back. OTOH perhaps they can't? When Obama Rewrites Obamacare, Why Doesn't Anyone Sue Him? | The Weekly Standard http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/when-obama-rewrites-obamacare-why-doesnt-anyone-sue-him_781480.html# Obama Adds Irrationality To Lawlessness -- While Threatening Prosecution
http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/370909/obama-adds-irrationality-lawlessness-while-threatening-prosecution-andrew-c-mccarthy In regard to the "self-attest" requirement, if an employer fails to attest and is then penalized in some way, would this give the employer standing to fight Obamacare in court? Up to now, my understanding is that no one can sue because they haven't been directly harmed. But under this new requirement...
It is interesting that the report is they are worried that employers are reacting to the threat of the employer mandate. That isn't a threat it is the law. What is foolish is their idea that employers haven't already reacted. We are now one year into the "look-back" period. Delayed by executive fiat, but, if you are a business would you trust Obama?

What's the old saying? 'You can't make this stuff up?' - seems be-clowning ones self is no longer a stymie, but a one-up for humour... The Swiss: EU won't allow member nations to vote on that; being certain they'd lose the vote.
O'Care: Four years to start it up? It would take 20 years to sort out all the crap hidden in its 2700+ pages, not to mention all the regulations written afterwards, and then, THEN, the lawyers attack in force. Kludge may be a new term in politics, but every programmer, techie, geek, nerd, or sysadmin knows what it means.
Alan S. Blinder editorial WSJ 2-11-14 ObamaCare Is a Job-Killer? Not at All. "Fewer sellers [of labor], not fewer buyers [of labor].
WHAT? Does he think that all these jobs are (were) there because employers looked around and thought "Golly, I think I better give that person a job!" Now I'm waiting for the next shoe to fall, when the employer mandate kicks in and they find they can't afford to stay in business at the same level of employees because the benefits cost got too high. Either bye bye company or less employees if the company can figure out how to stay in business. Unless Obama kicks that law further down the road too. |
