Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

I was on a CGN that provided gunfire support for the Marines in Beirut as part of the Multi National Peace Keeping Force. I will never forget my shipmates that died then. Nor will I forget the anger I felt when we sailed away and did nothing. I do not trust anyone in government who has not served in the military, especially if they were in the rear. They have no idea of what motivates warriors nor will they ever be able to count the cost. Politicians don't understand that if you appear weak in the Middle East, you will be attacked again and again. If we had turned Damascus into a radioactive basketball court, we would have not had anymore problems.
How a Terror Attack Against Our Marines... Reverberated...
Here's how it didn't - the Marines guarding the barracks in Beirut had no ammo. They helplessly watched a bomb truck roll past. Last month in the DC Navy Yard, Marines in the barracks there had no ammo. They watched the shooting helplessly and waited for the police. The politicians and Generals didn't trust our Marines then and they don't trust them now. How can they trust the Marines? They have a long and storied history of interfering with the plans of our enemies, most often to the point of disrupting them completely.
Why stop at teaching home ec? Why not also have classes in school to teach kids basic tool skills, using basic home repair as the context? Why hasn't someone thought of this before?
And the interesting part, were our educators not so clueless, they'd see these classes as opportunities to relate the real world to the more academic lessons. Fractions? What's half of a quarter cup? How about taking a 16th off an inch and three quarters for the kerf? On the other hand, as pointed out in a post over at Captain Capitalism, the internet is your new daddy. No longer are kids limited to hopefully learning something from their father as he puttered about the house. Just look up a Youtube video on the subject. Even better, you'll most likely have multiple sources to augment your lesson with different points of view. Perhaps confusing at first but if you "think", especially during and after doing, you'll learn more. re: fighting over affirmative action.
"Jim Crow laws mandated that public officials take account of race and treat people differently because of it, while Michigan’s current law mandates that public officials not take account of race and, instead, treat everyone the same." Can this possibly be true? Affirmative action is all about treating everyone the same. Well, maybe in the same way that Procrustes, from Greek mythology, treated everyone the same. Ask the high achieving Asian students if they feel they are being treated the same. Ask the white males who have 4.0 gpa in pre-med and get turned down for medical school in favor of a minority student with a 2.9 gpa. What does this comment say about the author of the story and about those on the side of race based quotas? Do they truely not understand their bigotry or do they fully understand it but are willng to do whatever is necessary to achieve their goals? In this way how are they any different from the grand wizard Robert Byrd? Different race; same goals. The entire race based industry has co-opted the KKK in it's goals, actions and rhetoric. You think not? Where are the lynchings? Well everyday it seems another black mob assaults or kills a white family but our media refuses to publish these uncomfortable truths. But how is the race based Mafia connected to what some thigs do? Well the purpose of the race pimps is to rabble rouse for fun and profit. How many whites have been killed by blacks "for Trayvon"? And why? The why is simple enough, people like Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton hyped that incident, inflamed passions, told lies, pushed the ignorant and angry into action and what was the result? Are people any more or less dead from being beaten for being white or beaten for being black? The death toll from the race based Mafia and the black thugs each year exceeds the deaths attributed to the Democrat created KKK in their entire period of existence. I guess you could say the Democrats are getting better at this with time and experience. It makes Alan Grayson's recent comments about the KKK quite ironic don'tcha think? Affirmative action is about treating everyone the same, but some people are more same than others.
The piece about married love is so lovely--the author truly understands. However, I offer you a You tube lecture that was done in 1963--my gosh how 50 years have passed! Go to You Tube and type in "Bishop Fulton Sheen" + "Love is a Garden". There are 3 short video lectures that he gave on tv. He truly understood married love and his power of the language and presentation are beautiful! For a more detailed analysis take a look with your second cup of coffee:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtw0nMSCHqo Oh, to be a fly on the wall at that Diversity Forum . . .
Do flies laugh out loud??? you're in point of fact a good webmaster. The web site loading velocity is incredible. It sort of feels that you are doing any distinctive trick. Furthermore, The contents are masterpiece. you've performed a magnificent activity in this matter!
Diversity forum: Microagressions. Really? Teh Horror! The horror...
Diversity musst be Mandatory! Equality of opportunity Mussssst Be Shtopped! WCC has been worthless for years. Why change now? Statecraft: Respect and Fear, either or both, trump being liked. Govern/Destroy: "Penalizing people for not complying with a law with which the goverment has made it impossible to comply is destructiveness raised to a level of evil genius. (White House flak Jay Carney says this won't happen. We'll see.)" What is the additive supposed to be added to gasoline that doesn't exist? And the refiners are fined for not using? I believe the number of cancelled policies is far greater than the article describes. Our Maryland based business had all of our policies cancelld by Carefirst BCBS anad when our broker called to figure out what was going on, they told us not to panic, that the company sent those notices to all policy holders ("all" as in "every single customer they have") and the intention is to renew ACA compliant policies at regular renewal time. Any companies offering non-ACA compliant policies will have to change coverage.
Despite the happy noises the fact remains- as of right now our policies are cancelled as of 12/31. Employees are getting restive about the matter, and that is causing no end of grief to managers worried about losing key people. For an interesting post soliciting stories from his readers facing problems with Obamacare:
http://themattwalshblog.com/2013/10/21/the-definitive-guide-to-how-obamacare-is-destroying-american-lives/ And our wonderful media at "ABC7Chicago: We the People" invited the gentleman below to join a "discussion" on Obamacare on October 14, 2013 that turned into a screaming match, which is the only way liberal media and politicians can keep someone from pointing out all the lies they perpetuate: http://csteventucker.wordpress.com From Heritage. org site: The fact that Members are now surprised and worried about the implications of the PPACA for themselves, and profess shock at what they enacted, leads inescapably to the question, as asked by Robert Pear of The New York Times: “If they did not know exactly what they were doing to themselves, did lawmakers who wrote and passed the bill fully grasp the details of how it would influence the lives of other Americans?”[ Blue Cross is forced by the law to discontinue my high-deductible individual policy. My new policy will have a deductible that is $3,750 lower, and it will cost only $4,800 a year more!
When the president said "If you like your coverage you can keep it," he really meant "If WE like your coverage, you can keep it." As there are Maggie's contributors/readers that enjoy snow skiing, here is something unusual. Naked skiing. Scroll down at the link for the NSFW video.
