Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Gotham’s Goliath: The people vs. the public sector

Bill de Blasio’s got the broad narrative right: We’ve got two New Yorks today, with a fat and privileged overclass lording it over everyone else.


What de Blasio won’t tell you is that the class profiting at everyone else’s expense is the city’s public sector. Because the campaign-finance laws privilege this class, their chosen candidates start out any race far ahead. But de Blasio won’t tell you any of this because if he’s elected mayor, this is the New York he’ll be working for.

Sounds a bit like the good old days when the Praetorian Guard had much voice in the next Emperor.

FWIW, as a retired bureaucrat, I would be happy to see Hatch Act level restrictions on public employees.

Is it too much to ask that people remember how much everybody was better off under Guiliani? Yeah, probably...

If De Blasio wins, is it then too much to ask that people realize what a gem Giuliani was?

Yeah, that probably is, too...
