We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Those pictures remind me of photos of a sandspit near Houston that got wiped clean in the last hurricane to strike there. Hundreds of houses just wiped off the earth. One house, specially designed to withstand a storm surge, did survive, with some damage.
That, children, is the meaning of "awesome" - something capable of creating a sense of awe, which is among the normal human senses that I doubt you have ever experienced in your sheltered lives. Harrrumph!
My old stomping grounds. They started a dune rebuilding project and it's coming along nicely. That spit now has some
beach buildings on it, but it's mostly reclaimed beach.
If you travel out of Watch Hill along the Watch Hill Channel past Barn Island Sanctuary you'll see remnants of the old channel light as you approach Stonington harbor.
Great striper fishing along that beach in October in particular on a NE wind. Good at the lighthouse too, but you have to walk in.
