Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

"Unintended consequence of Obamacare: the 30-hour work week"
Actually, that would be two 30-hr jobs with the added stress of coordinating two employer scheduling and extra energy usage due to the double commute. It's not like lower wage earners can live on a 30-hr workweek's pay. Obama is doing everything he can to make working very costly for the least skilled. I tire of reading about Obama's "unintended" or "unknowing" (BHO is so unprepared) mistakes!
He and his socialist ilk know very well what they are doing and that is undermining the capitalist economic system upon which the US depends for its standing and material well-being! Read Cloward Piven, its all laid out, in terms even the most forgiving could not fail to understand. So stop with the "oh gee, didn't he realize..." exclamations of surprise. They are unwarranted and simply make one look like a foolish tool. (Not you JKB, its the others who want to ascribe good, but ill-advised, motives to the Marxist Kenyan!) JKB and Earl are both correct. People without the full-time job wind up working a pair (or more) of part-time jobs. I was chatting with a guy last week who was RIF'd several years ago, ran out of unmployment compensation, and now works two 30-hour PT jobs.
If only Stalin knew....
But I chalk the "unintended consequences" up to politeness. But long ago, it became apparent that even in unintended, they weren't willing to address the consequences. The other day there was a post at Instapundit and apparently a Bloomberg column about getting Obama out of his bubble. But the bubble is in Obama's head. To pop it would require more work than to lead a devoutly religious person to disavow their belief in God. Of course, what Obama is doing is what his "religion" dictates. "all hail Hillary"? More like Aw, hell Hillary.
But it takes a village, unless you live in George Zimmerman's village then mind your own damn business and don't take an interest in your community. but then again, ‘What Difference, At This Point, Does It Make’ ? "Get Ready for the All-Hail-Hillary Movies"
Related: NBC Pres Behind Hillary Series Put ‘Historically Questionable’ anti-Reagan Film On Air in 2003 Wouldn't any puff piece on Hillary also be a historically questionable anti-Reagan film (also an anti-American film). Although I realize there is little connection between the Clintons and Obama it does in fact appear that they were all promoted and paid for by the same anti-American pro-communist cabal. They had the same mentors (or at least mentors from the same communist/socialist organizations) and the same people contributed/bought their political and social life. Obama may well be the real Manchurian candidate but before Obama was anointed a "citizen" (contrary to all the evidence) Bill Clinton paved the way by coercing the media to not just ignore all his crimes but to actively cover-up his high crimes and misdemeanors. Could Obama possibly have skated through an election cycle without the willing help of our "free" press?
Hillary's mommy and daddy were Chicago mob wonks, which is why you never heard about her family. She was then, is now, and ever shall be a piece of %$&* !
I am pulling this link forward, because I think it is very important--it is the core piece of the confusion in the Republican party. HOW are they going to address corruption? How are they going to address corrupt military contracts? What do they plan to do to get their heads out of the sand vis a vis ethics in the marketplace? If they can get these right they will obtain many more white voters than they can imagine. If they turn a blind eye to this stuff and just hope it goes away--they will disappear from the political stage.
The only way to protect free enterprise is to make sure there is transparency and an agreed upon system of ethics ! http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2013/07/money-nsa-vote/ 30 HOUR WORK WEEK
That sounds like what they do in Europe, the 30 hour work week. Mark my words, what the liberals will demand next is a mandatory increase 33% increase in the wages (not just the minimum wage) of either all or some subset of EMPLOYEES to offset this effect of ObamaCare. We will follow Europe down the toilet bowl of socialistic low productivity. Make no mistake about it, socialism, correctly be fined, is not just the central planners owning the deed to the means of production, it's when the central planners control the means of production. Is there anyone out there - other than the press and the academics - who honestly thinks that with their taxes, regulations and enforcement gestapo, the government doesn't have de facto ownership of the means of production? The whole "socialism is the state ownership of the means of production" is a dissemblance. And one the so-called learned academics and elites should see through but, sadly, they can't.
It fits the need of those seeking power to hide their true purpose. Just as they railed against Communism when it was the socialism in the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics that did so much evil, so they hide the control of the means of production with ownership. There are laws against taking a citizen's property without compensation but the courts have been far more amenable to taking control of that property leaving the title in place. 125 years ago, a correspondent writing on socialism named it in the clear: QUOTE: That Communism is essentially negative, confined to the prohibition that one shall not have more than another. Socialism is positive and aggressive, declaring that each man shall have enough. It purposes to introduce new forces into society and industry; to put a stop to the idleness, the waste of resources, the misdirection of force, inseparable, in some large proportion of instances, from individual initiative; and to drive the whole mass forward in the direction determined by the intelligence of its better half. The Socialist, under this definition, would be the man who, in general, distrusts the effects of individual initiative and individual enterprise ; who is easily convinced of the utility of an assumption, by the State, of functions which have hitherto been left to personal choices and personal aims ; and who, in fact, supports and advocates many and large schemes of this character. A man of whom all this could be said might, in strict justice, be termed a Socialist. The extreme Socialist is he who would make the State all in all, individual initiative and enterprise disappearing in that engrossing democracy of labor to which he aspires. In his view, the powers and rights of the State represent the sum of all the powers and all the rights of the individuals who compose it ; and government becomes the organ of society in respect to all its interests and all its acts. So much for the Socialist. Stands to reason -- if everyone's working 30-hour weeks, of course there will be calls to Congress to raise the minimum wage by 33%!
Vinyard: I just hate the optics when Barry goes slumming.
Mah pore heart bleeds for them Saudis. It do, it do. Barry has worked hardest on destroying race relations, if not on the economy or vacations (toss-up?). Highly effective here. Eco-terrorists--Violence and destruction confirms their sense of purpose. Effectiveness is not considered. Stalin became Party Secretary because he was willing and able to do the grunt work and get the goods (and bads) on everyone else. Stalin started his career as plain old bank-robbing gangster. But unlike USA's contemporaneous gangsters, that bunch in Russia used the political overlay from the beginning. Our boys n girls didn't catch up until the '60s and '70s, with the Symbionese Liberation Army and such. I'm sure Saul Alinsky's year spent (following around for the amusement of both, as he described it) with Capone's #2 Frank Nitti, was for the purpose of aligning whatever could be aligned, between Alinsky's Bolsheviks and Capone's Chicago Mafia.
I'd rather have Vlad Putin. "Officially", i mean. Or Vlad the Impaler, for that matter.
Hi Doc: This article is for you and all the others who are so misguided and stubborn to believe that Microsoft is anything but a piece of work (in the negative sense). They are not now, nor have they ever been about designing a great product- if they can't buy a new idea for 10 cents on the dollar, they destroy the inventor and steal what they want. It's the Seattle business model.

The Secretary of State, on the death of an erstwhile ally. Nice to see Krugman chatter on about sprawl. He's agin' it. But he dare not seek to even identify the causes of jobs, good or bad, moving out to the suburbs. Namely, you can't start a dirty, low skilled worker business in any urban area. They want arty shops and office workers, i.e., the right kind of jobs.
Even if there is auto shop, metal work shop, etc. open they get hounded by the "inspectors" coming round with their hand out and social engineers telling them high pay for low skill is how they need to run their business. Not to mention, congestion, riots, crime, etc. Now I wonder why a downtown business might run into such problems Obama hasn't said anything about race that Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson haven't been saying for decades. They're the ones who poisoned race relations in America.
If anything, Obama has brought back honest, open debate on the subject -- because his own success very visibly gives the lie to the Sharpton narrative that all blacks are victims and that their failures were all inflicted by whites. Even the left can no longer keep up the pretense -- and MSNBC will soon share the fate of Air America for trying to. jdgalt. Bwahhahhhhhaahahahahahahahahahah. I don't know who the f#ck you are but that is the funniest thing I have ever read on the interwebs.
Obamas own success visibley gives lie. Ha! Obama is a "kept" man. He has never succeeded on his own. He was born and bred for the takeover operation that is the Obama presidency. He is an uninterested, unitntelligent, unmotivated pawn in the game of Let the reds take over America. He is the affirmative action president. I don't believe he ever passed an exam in his life. Prove me wrong. He is totally controlled by the progressive left and has never, ever, ever had an original thought of his own. Soros is the real president of the united states. Obama is merely trying to pay his debts to the low information, and/or dead voter who elected him. He cares about no one but his self. Obama's past and much of his present is still a mystery. How did he get into two prestigious colleges and so effortlessly? Who paid for it and hand carried his application? Was he really in these colleges; one of his professors claims he never saw him or heard of his name. None of his classmates knew him. I could go on and on about the mysteries, coincidences and unlikely "facts" and events in Obama's life but where was/is the press on any of this? Don't get me wrong I understand that the press is largely Democrat and Liberal and would coverup for any liberal Democrat but Obama is doing some real harm to our country and our constitution wouldn't you think even a liberal might understand that Obama may truely be the "Manchurian candidate"? If I were a liberal Democrat who wanted to see a Democrat congressional majority and Democrat presidents for the next 50 years Obama would scare the shit out of me. The only hope the Democrats have is: 1. Pass the damned amnesty bill and fast track signing up these new citizens to vote. 2. Continue with the same Republican leaders who all are either totally gutless or Democrats registered as Republicans. Even with the help of Republicans like McCain and Graham working as hard as they can the Democrats could lose congress in 2014 thanks to Obama and his policies. If we aren't in a full blown great depression (hidden to some extent by massive borrowing and printing of money) then I will eat Bernankes hat.
