We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Welcome to beautiful Lake North Pole!


Exciting news!  As you might have heard, by utilizing the latest modern breakthroughs in global warming technology, the North Pole is now a stunningly beautiful lake!

The water skiing is supposed to be fantastic, and the scuba clubs are going crazy because of the crystal-clear conditions.  I don't think it would be an understatement to call it a 'tourist's paradise', and we all have global warming to thank.

Best yet, living there is free!  According to international law, no one actually 'owns' beautiful Lake North Pole, so there won't be anyone there to charge you rent.  Grab one of those pre-fab houses, throw the pieces on the back of a flatbed truck and you're ready to go!

I glanced over one of the 'Lake North Pole' articles the other day, and maybe I missed it, but they just threw the slush pond pic up there and never even hinted where it was actually taken.

In a just world, the FCC would make all of these sites remove the word "news" from their banner. Note to FCC: blatant lies are NOT generally considered "news".

Well, all except for Fox News, of course, "the conservative's best friend". Surely they'd never stoop to a level where what they were reporting wasn't good, solid news backed by good, solid evidence.

    Love it.

    Down here in TX, our summer has been pretty good. Some years, the thermometer hit 100 on the first of June. Ninety days of 100 degree weather is something that I will never get accustomed to. This year, maybe 10 days of 100 degree weather. August will be hell. It always is. But it is more bearable with the pleasant summer so far.

    It's been pretty miserable down here in the Keys the last few weeks. The classic "A sparkling 91 out -- feels like 106".

    On the other hand, we'll be drinking Mai Tais on the porch at 9:30 at night in the middle of next January, so it all balances out.

      Not to correct you, but I believe the proper term would be chaetophobia.

      Unfortunately, the pills don't seem to be working so now the doctor's talking electroshock therapy.

      But anything for a cure from the dreaded chaetophobia!

        A while back I asked in one of your GW choice posts if I could pick cooling for summer and warming for winter. You said sure. So I did, and so far it's working. Here in S. Alabama the summer to now has been about 10° cooler than usual, and they are predicting a cooler than usual August. Thanks for OKaying it.

        You've very welcome. We aim to please. Unfortunately, a balance must be maintained, so they're adding an extra ten degrees to Ecuador this summer. I figured hey, them Ecuadorians are already used to 100 degree temps -- what's a few more at that point?
