Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

This wouldn't have happened if Zimmerman had just stayed in his truck.
And do we really want to live in a community where wanna-be firemen go around with fire extinguishers cocked, locked and ready rock? How long before the anti-Zimmerman protesters start protesting that he saved these people from an evil, global warming SUV? You gotta love cosmic justice. They said he had a hero complex. Turns out it wasn't all that complex.....to him. --the very term 'hero complex' may be in the underlying assumption a 'Questionable Premise Fallacy'. I know you're describing its use and not using it, but those who do use it ought to be asked "Is that a good thing, or a bad thing --and why?"
I moved from being a Republican to Libertarian after I got married. I don't think she "softened" me at all. In fact, she became a Republican after years of being a Democrat, after she met me.
In the comparison of giving a stranger money, the first option is likely to be mine on a consistent basis. It's not so much that I'm giving up anything, but a question of why should I be giving the other person I'll never see again so much? The assumption made by the social scientists is that in example 1 there is $35 to be shared. But in example 2 I give up $5 to increase the total pool to $50. Since this is an unlikely and irrational scenario or comparison, the first selection is not selfish at all, it's just logical. You can't compare the second choice to the first since the total pool is larger. Were the question one of $50 split 35/15 or 30/20, I'd have no problem opting for the second over the first, in certain circumstances. But without context or explanation the methods they used to run their experiment were misguided. Interesting blurb on Juan Williams. He is correct in what he says, but it is too bad he is only criticizing the race pimps Jackson and Sharpton and totally ignoring His Wonderfulness BHO. Williams sometimes gets it right, but when it comes to Obama he sees nothing but his wonderfulness. (I have called Obama His Wonderfulness ever since he was given a Nobel prize for absolutely nothing except being wonderful. It seemed like a fitting title.)
It should be illegal for them to say that
--right on --if you don't like 1A, quit using it. RE: It should be illegal for them to say that. I thought this line to be hysterical.
Heh!!
The idea of a third of respondents thought this way is so depressing I can't look at the link, but I hope it's just an artifact of how the questions were presented or somesuch other polling hijink / failure. 'Fair Housing'
If you haven't already, prepare to have public housing rammed down your throat. Yep. Somehow, the logic must be that if you put people in better homes in better neighborhoods, it will make them better citizens.
They have been trying this for about 50 years and I don't believe it has worked yet. But with smarter administrators and more money it is bound to work sooner or later. Sigh... That and a boat load of government backed loans, credits etc to gentrify various neighborhoods. Real estate speculators stand to do quite well with this plan.
Andrew absolute crap rap is funny.
Me top sergeant rolled in yesterday eve and couldn't resist having a crapfest. Me suggested that his people were emancipated by the devil Lincoln much too early, before blacks had reached cultural and moral maturity. Now, US be blessed to care for a race of children, who vote. Him said "Major, i can hardly stand yall." Then, him insisted we have another beer but he had only brought one, for hisself. American blacks are perpetually children thanks to yall, yankees. And Hispanics are wanna be heros, who need be sent home. Take care, gently. First lost meaning when it was incorporated and became a whip upon the subdued states and no longer restricted US Congress which was it's only purpose.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. Another fine job, yankers. By the bye Bird Dog yall's lady has a grip on a nice watering pail.
Me Tomato Girl needs get me one like dat. String of pearls would be kool, too. Why don't people "share" more?
The article posits a choice, confidently identifying choice #1 as "more selfish": (a) You get $25 and your partner gets $10. (b) You get $20 and your partner gets $30. Wonder which option the author would call "selfish" as between these two: (a) You get $25K a year and the CEO gets $4 million. (b) You get only $20K but that SOB in the corner office is cut down to size and gets to keep only $200K after taxes, which is more than anyone has a right to expect in a fair country. BD, where did you get the info that Zimmerman saved a white family? The race of the family has been notable only in its absence from every story I've seen.
Yes, I finally saw an article with more info about them. It explains how they are afraid to talk about it for fear of being targeted:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2375251/George-Zimmerman-rescue-family-terrified-targets-hate-mobs.html What a great country! Bridgeport--They do hate kids, don't they? Or those who might be able to smarten up.
Fair housing--Quotas again for outcomes. Kids don't vote, make donations and/or supply campaign workers, teacher unions/associations do.
I read that NBC has a video of Zimmerman rescueing those people, but they are running it backwards to show him pushing people into a burning car.
NBC needs to tred lightly - seeing how Zimm's barristers are circling their bloated caucus. They should be REALLY sweating him filing a defamation\mis-representation law suit and how much they are gonna get slammed.
You know you lost Dershiwitz when he chides in "wish I was on his legal team for the settlement...." HUD....profiling Americans since its inception. Have they no shame?
"$28 billion in philanthropic gifts "?
About 50% of that was you and me paying more and higher taxes because of a loop hole that allows someone to "give" to charity and not pay the taxes. I suggest that the taxes be paid first before any charitable donations. "To ensure that "every American is able to choose to live in a community they feel proud of,"
So does this mean I could buy a house on an Indian reservation? Or do they only mean predominently white nieghborhoods? |
