Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Well, if the war on coal goes anything like the war on drugs, then there will be more of it available at cheaper prices, the police will have cool coal burning vehicles, the police will slaughter more household pets, a disproportionate number of blacks and other minorities will be in prison while elite whites, especially in the DC area are able to use coal with impunity.
Yall post this witch who trys substantively to redefine essential.
Marvelous; me had a witch like that on hook, once upon a time. She degreed English from University of Michigan but it took another seven years to teach her how to speak English and negociate it proper. She finally put it, English together well enough to cut her kite string and loft aawy on her broom. About the war on coal, might want to read this article at the National Journal. Short story made long, there aren't enough vulnerable Congressional seats.
Rate hikes to cover converting coal fired generators that would make a difference. And once again, we see the loud and obnoxious suppressing scientific inquiry to defend the orthodoxy, in the minding the campus article. Yes, yes, did much enjoy the Duser rendition. Always enjoy a rousing Sousa.

We should poison the well, so to speak. I agree. In fact, I use a charcoal base with wood on top.
You would. The whole charcoal vs gas argument is ignorant. You need smoldering wood for the best flavor, i.e., smoke. With the common grill design, charcoal is best to put the wood over. But properly designed, the same can be achieved with gas or even electricity. You don't want any other smoke generating fuel besides charcoal since that adds bad smoke. The impurities in charcoal generally add to the smoking flavor.
I have good success with reversing the normal cooking process using a gas grill for convenience. I put steaks, (works with other meats with mods), on 250-300 (front and rear burners on low) for 6 minutes a side for store thick-cuts. Then remove them covered with foil as I get the grill hot, above 550. The put the steaks back on for 2 minutes on a side. You are looking for flame, flare ups from the fat rendering. (not good fat on the steak to render then use grease, bacon grease) you want drippings. You might leave it a bit longer if you want to get some better browning. Advantage is by varying the time at 250 you can achieve different levels of doneness then finish all the steaks at the same time. the 6 minutes gets a nice med-rare. I think the internal temps before searing is 80 for rare to 100 for well done. You get smoke, high heat so you get flavor and browning (Maillard reaction). Not a nice wood smoke but you do get flavor. I got to get my Smoke Daddy hooked up to the grill then I'll have both. The whole charcoal vs gas argument is ignorant. It may be true that some men are avoiding marriage because of negative social trends, but the culture in one's immediate family can override that influence. Family is very important.
She says she is "essentially honest."
Everything Althouse has posted the past day or two in what appears to be her War on Dr. Helen has produced enormous blowback from her commenters. When your hypocrisy becomes as obvious to everyone as the Law Professor's, you can expect to get called on it. To this day, she still gets flak for voting her emotions, not her brains, for Obama. Let's just say her photography is better than her lawyering. I'm with the gay guy: the issue of gay marriage has become utterly boring. Whatever. The recent SCOTUS decision on gay marriage has confirmed what I've thought all along, that it's all about the Benjamins. Just don't ask me to serve on a jury in any civil case over the contested divorce of a gay marriage that splits because of infidelity. This is a mess made in the courts by the judges; they can sort it out themselves.
