We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

The IRS and Obamacare


Byron York: IRS scandal raises fears about enforcing Obamacare:



 A look at the text of the health care law reveals that much of it consists of amending the Internal Revenue Code to give the IRS more power. When Obamacare goes fully into effect in January, every American will have to prove to the IRS that he or she has "qualifying" health coverage, meaning coverage with a list of features approved by Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius. That will be done by submitting a document to the IRS, something like a W-2, to confirm coverage...


In addition, the IRS will keep track of even the smallest changes in Americans' financial condition. Did you get a raise recently? You'll need to notify the IRS; it might affect your subsidy status. Have your hours been reduced at work? Notify the IRS. Change jobs? Same.

--i first realized the guy was poisonous way beck when his campaign started sending out his technical position papers. I read his paper on 'refundable tax credits' --and my stomach fell --i knew then that he was going to deliberately degrade the language, meaning, he was planning to damage the system. A tax credit is (or was) of a certain definition, and the word 'refundable' is inherent, no tax credit is not refundable, the very idea is unmoored from meaning.

Of course, the RTC is no such thing, except it is now. It's a transfer payment, a welfare check, but administered by IRS rather than HHS.

So as early as the 2008 campaign, he has been interlocking the two agencies --building Leviathan, and taking our language from a unifying cultural tool toward an internecine weapon.

The left sure does love the tax collector. Give unto Caesar what is Caesar's - but Caesar seems to require more and more.

It's been happening for a long time - the tax code and it's government appointed enforcers used to push people into certain behaviors. But Obamacare takes to a new level.

Now your taxes will include painful punishment for not buying health insurance.

Is it any wonder they look at the IRS not as the means to fund necessary government operations - but as the enforcement arm of government policy?

Until such time as the IRS is transformed or defunded, people should withhold all tax monies in an escrow account. A flat tax,or consumer tax would eliminate the need for the IRS, and make all tax payers have a stake in their government. Things that cannot continue, will not.
