We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
When I see the announcement that Salon has gone offline, having voluntarily given up its air conditioned Internet server rooms for the sake of preserving Gaia and staving off “the apocalypse,” I’m willing to revisit the cheeseburger argument.
"Mr. Bernanke has no clue about economics or currencies, and no clue about how markets work. You have to be very careful and watch those guys. Many people for some reason have some kind of faith, even worship of the Central Bank, like they know what they are doing. Its has only been in the past few decades people even knew who Central Bankers were. Nobody knew about these guys 100 years, 80 years ago yet now they have become exalted and that is a bubble.
Fortunately Central Bankers are going to pop and this particular crisis may well lead to it. In America we've had 3 Central Banks, the first two disappeared and this one will too in my view. They are making such horrible mistakes. "
“If you have the biggest computer and the biggest data, you can calculate how to target people with a political message, and have almost a guaranteed deterministic level of success,” says Lanier. “Politics then becomes about who has the biggest computer. The way Obama won the last US election was by having the best computer strategy.”
“If that is to be the future of politics, it will no longer have meaning. The path we are currently on now is not compatible with democracy.”
That New Republic article on free speech was terrifying in its support of totalitarianism ideologies.
Although I can get behind banning all hate speech: queer theory, feminism, use of words “homophobia,”, “racism,” “sexism” et. al.; all books, pamphlets, speeches, recording supporting socialism. That is, I am in favor of banning hate speech when I and I alone get to decide what it is.
Their economic policy is a slow-motion disaster, propped up only by private economy energy production, their politics has become a propaganda-driven Big Lie devoid of any real clue of how to improve the country, their foreign policy has brought forth only chaos and war. We will be left only with poverty, cynicism and (hopefully low level) world-wide conflict as we usher the Reid/Pelosi/Obama regime towards the door.
First thing we need to do is reintroduce the concept of "public virtue" to our schools. Teach young people history, duty to country and self-responsibility. Wipe the Bill Ayers Marxist crap out of schools, along with public unions, welfare upon demand and, especially, victim mentality. Luckily, we are still Americans and our forbears have left us a great body of lessons for living well.
We should be so lucky to have progressive rule reaching an end game. If Penny Pritzker is awarded Commerce Sec'y, we're dead. Superior Bank ranks very high on the list of business school case studies of "Mismanagement 101." I don't care what excuses the media uses about her leaving the board before the rug was pulled out, it take time to set up that kind of real estate scam.
And, outside of inheriting billions from a family well versed in working with "Chicago" guys, she does know her unions.
Ripley: I saw a short on TCM with and about Ripley. Seem to recall going thru a BION museum in Frisco, many yars back.
Bad Science: Zachriel, please come to the white courtesy telephone.
Pentagon Waste: Much of which is likely congressionally mandated, either directly or thru arcane and confusing procurement regs.
Free Speech: Skimming, it appears they are against "hate speech". I say, let the haters speak, so we know who they are. Much "hate speech", I suspect, is just the truth someone can't deal with.
NYT not going private: yes, let the shareholders share the losses, while Pinch and fam protect themselves as best they can.
Bill Ayers: Selfless guy who made bombs to kill people. Riiiiiiiiiight.
Cuomo: Even the NYT is outing him for using Sandy money? A-maaaaaaaaaz-ing.
Concern Troll: Well, lemme say this about that--Air Conditioning is Bad, Bad. Bad, Supercalifragilisticexpialicociously BAD (B.A.D.!) because it enables Wash D.C. to be livable in the summer, letting congress stay in session longer. Q. E. D.!
