Who in the heck says they're necessarily peaceful? And remember, we are talking about "illegal" immigrants. who automaticamente show no respect for our laws.

BTW, no one broke any laws in Newtown regarding guns, and all the laws suggested to date would not have avoided that unfortunate conclusion. Unless we as a society become more clairvoyant about mental illness, we will never stop all deviant behavior.

Last time I looked, Illegal meant ILLEGAL - no amount of hand wringing, changing the NYT style guide terminology, or any other PC mumbo-jumbo will over-ride this - they are breaking LAWS, with the assistance of willing accomplices.

Who cares if they are 'peaceful immigrants' their act of entering other than the 'established process of immigration' makes that moniker moot.

So apparently it took more than a constitutional amendment. The Civil Rights Acts were signed into law in '64 and '65. The leader of the American Civil Rights Movement retired and lived to a ripe old age, because the struggle of equality was over.

Yes. It requires that people understand the amendment and the government to respect and obey it (in this case Democrats).

The Civil Rights Act of '64 and '65 were the ones that made the most difference. There were many proposed prior to that by Republicans and that were often voted down by Democrats. In fact, the CRAs of '64 & '65 only passed because of Republican support. Even Johnson admitted that.

If half the staff leave, then that half is in an extremely strong position to start a competing newspaper. They will take with them much of the brand goodwill and expertise (both in reporting and in ad sales for that market), but leave behind all of the ongoing costs of the remaining liabilities.

Sure...assuming those actually are the half that would take the brand goodwill and expertise AND assuming they could secure funding which is apparently lacking that the Koch brothers are bringing to the table.

Sounds more like a hissy fit by a bunch of whiny lefty journalists, and I repeat myself, who are major contributors to the failing business that is the LA Times. So it might possibly save the Koch brothers a lot of headaches if they did simply walk off the job.

Those that would leave over fantasy ideological differences are Leftists and "journalists". Neither group has any history of being willing to work hard to create that is of use to others with their one time, effort and money.

It's scary, the Market is out there just waiting for them to venture out from under government cronyism. And remember, the market cares little about your credentials. It only respects competency and the ability to do something useful for your fellow man.

I think the pertinent point is " ...the Failed & Undistinguished Newspaper". The owners & managers are not making a go of it financially, and "undistinguished" would indicate they're also not making a go of it editorially and journalistically. So those who quit do not seem to be in a good position to find new financial backing for a new paper with the same editorial and political positions of the current LAT.

Would the LAT be for sale if it were making money?

Don't let the door thwack you in your rear. The Tribune organization hasn't had a clue since ???...whenever. To some extent, the Woodward and Bernstein "Watergate" fiasco was the worst event in old-fashioned journalism because every young whippersnapper out of J-school thought he/she could make millions in one swift shot. Most of the true journalists I knew never made that much money, but they left the world a bit more informed and empowered.

No matter the career track, it's called 'the arrogance factor." It will kill you every time.

I think it means that if you believe in global warming, you'll get screwed.

If you install air conditioning, you are more likely to find a woman into contractual sex. But sadly, if the contract breaks down and the partnership dissolves, she'll get the air conditioning to keep her in the manner to which she's become accustomed and you'll get the cold shoulder. On the upside, with global warming, living outside won't be so harsh in the winter months.

Gun ownership and bearing is a constitutional right. Immigration is not.

To point out the excesses, law flauting, and abuse of our immigration system is not at all hypocritical.

For example, just about anyone can come in on a "student" visa. But no one checks to make sure they are actually in school. This is absurd.

Pretty much agree, when a host of hand-wringers are left afoot, mayhem arises with the smile of compassion and the soft tyranny of protection.

Seems like a back-door method to ban books... we've seen that tried before.

Its one of the reason I left miniature wargaming, the move to the 'newer metals' doesn't have the same feel or paint adherence. Pity, that...

Guess What Ladies and Gentlemen: your next president has already been agreed upon. Back there in those smoke filled closed rooms the naughty unionist/socialists have teamed up with the naughty large corporations and have agreed that our next president will be a woman. Given that Bill and Hillary have worked so hard to open the drug lanes into this country, to encourage the Russian Mafia and to guarantee the church, family and mutually agree upon ethics have all been destroyed, it should be quite clear to all that the next presidential election has already been decided.
Excuse me, but I would consider anyone who disagrees to be rather naive and foolish in their childlike faith that we still have a democracy. The network of dirty girls has been working so hard and has been so successful. Lest we forget that Christine Gregoire (Governor of WA State for two terms) once stated that "elections are just an indicator of how people are feeling".
