Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

A free ad for Bluestone Perennials

A family-owned business in Ohio: Bluestone Perennials.


We have used them for several years. Pleasant people. Good selection, good prices. The plants are small, but by next Spring they won't be.

Thank you for posting this! It looks like they have everything you could ever want. I went to our best local garden supply store and they had only 2 lavender plants. This site offers quite a few.

I have used them in the past. The first thing I bought was one of those "starter garden" things that they sell.

It all looked just a tad puny when I got the flat in the mail....

The darned thing absolutely flourished. Even better than I could have imagined.

We have bought again from them, several times, with equally great results.

But, thy are perennials, after all, so our business with them has tapered, rather a bit.....

We use Bluestone on a regular basis. I would say the only plants that have failed are those that really should be classified as biennials/Short-lived perennials, so it isn't really failure more an overenthusiastic nursery trade and a gardener looking for a ten year return.
That leaves aside the infamous incident of: 'postman practicing his football throw with a box of expensive delphiniums' and that was a 100% failure, but not Bluestone's fault.
