We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Back when I was in high school (early 70s), I recall them trying to make up their minds over the effects of CO2.
Aside from the Greenhouse Effect, the other school of thought had CO2 reflecting sunlight back into space, thus cooling the planet. At the time they weren't sure which way it would play out but the CO2 meme remained intact either way. Heads they win, tails we lose.
Bird Dog is quite correct to be concerned about global cooling. It is much harder to grow food in a cool climate.

Um, no. Carbon dioxides role as a greenhouse gas and its amplification by water vapor has been known since 1896. Aerosols reduce insolation, and cool the planet. The question is which would have the more powerful effect over the long run.
here's proof positive the Ice Age is a Comin' from the NYT, WaPo, Lamont-Doherty Geological Observatory, Dept of Geological Sciences, Brown University, the White House, NOAA, the Natl. Solar Observatory, NASA, the WSJ and the American Institute of Physics.
Science! you know, sci-ence. it never lies, is never wrong. because, its, like Science!.
It doesn't matter that it is getting cooler planet wide - it's still Global Warming. You have to understand the "science" - it gets warmer, Global Warming. It gets cooler, Global Warming. It stays the same on average over centuries, Global Warming. My hemorrhoids - Global Warming. High gas prices, Global Warming. Obama voted a second term, Global Warming.
It's not hard sciencey stuff - it's all simple and easily explained.
On the other hand, I saw my first turkey vulture here in Knox Co., OH, soaring over our hill last Monday (2/18), and again Sunday and today. These birds normally show up the first week in March on their way to the big turkey orgy up in Hinckley by the lake. Then they come back the third week for the spring/summer/fall feasting. So, the vultures are at least two weeks early.
We have had a mild winter both temperature wise and snow wise, and winters in central Ohio have been mild for over a decade.
Global warming has stopped, and we are in a warm plateau similar to the 1930s, despite the continuing rise in CO2. CO2 does help warm the planet, but the the sun probably is the dominant force. If so, the now and future quite sun may lead to significant cooling, which would be very bad. Time will tell. Place your bets and spin the wheel.
Not to put too fine of an edge on it, but when a couple thousand, or on occasion a couple hundred thousand of them, decide to descend on you for the winter?
As much as I would like to chase them off with a 12ga, I tend to confine myself to lobbing a few whistling bottle rockets off when they come crowding in to look for a roosting site about a half-hour before sunset.
Like all of us, they are just trying to make a living, but they can go crap on someone else's vehicles and roof, if they really don't mind.
When they really flock in down here, I have to hose the vehicle off before I can leave for work. Not good.
Go find a nice unpopulated woods, birdies. Please. I don't begrudge you a living, but you don't all have to come defecate on my house and cars, now do you?
Go North, and thank God and Greyhound you are gone!
