We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Black Bean Soup. Good stuff. I like it with a big spoonful of mashed potatoes in the middle of the bowl. Don't be afraid to use instant mashed taters for it: it's cheap and easy, consistent with our theme.
Red Beans and Rice. It doesn't really need the ham hocks as long as you use some bacon. I lived on this when I was in college. I miss it. Need to make some.
Each of these dishes is not harmed by some hot sauce or hot pepper flakes.
Bean snack: Seventh-Day Adventists are going a little wobbly on nutrition, but it's to everyone's advantage. Many are vegetarians, and feature beans prominently. But all parents get worn down trying to keep the kids on board with good eating, so they have come up with fun stuff.
Black beans over Fritos in a bowl. Adjustments are endless, and you will love this. I go to the salsa or tomato variations, but friends have had good fun with lime, cilantro, soft cheeses, sour cream.
