Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Yankeeland, today - photos


More Yankeeland architectural pics tomorrow. One aspect of the traditional ethos is to make a home appear humbler and smaller, than it is. One way to do that is to make them narrow in the front, but to run on in the back with endless additions and attachments. 


This is not an inn, it's a family homestead. Could have been an inn at some point in history. Here's the full view, behind the trees, Hard to determine which part came first, but Sipp can probably explain the cobbling here. I tend to guess that the Federal front part came second, but I can't be sure:

Beautiful house, lovingly maintained, though damned if I'd want to paint the thing. That must cost a nickel or two.

Never been to the NE (yet).
But with a passion of reading "my side of the mountain" and the post card from another "old geezer' who did actually have the tenacity to visit Portland Maine beyond Portland Oregon, I will add it to my bucket list. (Even if bucket list is now a forbidden banded word).
With 500+ years of history for the East Coast, and only 150 odd for the West, how do we compare? Well, not really at all.
But.
There's always tomorrow.

Wow, is that a gym they've got on the back there?

Must have been an inn or something commercial w/ that industrial sized chimney on the backside.
