We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
... it is more than slightly ironic that Democrats, the fiercely pro-choice party, reserve free choice for aborting a fetus while denying it for such matters as choosing your child’s school or joining a union.
I think the Unions missed their opportunity to add value to having union employees at a plant. The Unions could have guaranteed quality skills and efficient production, flexibility of effort, and dealt with problem employees for management. Had unions provided superior labor and smoothed personell problems, management might welcome unions instead of fighting them. Just my thought. Blick
The problem with unions should be obvious but clearly needs to be explained. Union members don't "own" or run the union a couple of the union bosses do. The union wasn't formed to get you a better job, better pay, better hours or better benefits. It was created to give the union bosses power, raw power that they could use to acquire more power. To do this they must be good speakers and able to motivate people. Not terribly intelligent people or people who are paying much attention. Just keep making sure that the members are overpaid and underworked and tell them who to hate and who to vote for and you can keep you seat of power. About half the union members would tear down someone's tent or crack heads no matter what the union bosses said but the other half will and that's how the unions win by intimidation and extortion. The unions are so far outside the American political spectrum they would feel right at home with Putin and Karl Marx. They have been infiltrated and taken over by communist and anti-American socialists. I feel bad for the union members being used as pawns but I feel twice as bad for those the union screws over in the rush to gain power.
Not ironic at all. Abortion is about ignoring even the possibility that a fetus has reality because of protecting judgement of sexual behavior - whole different set of rules for that.

I'm an estimator for a small concrete subcontractory. We bid on government work occasionally. When that happens, I get out the relevant payroll tables to adjust wage rates. I rarely have to adjust them up.
