Mead on Advent:

For Christians, and nobody else really has much business thinking about Advent or observing it, there is something else. If there is no Christmas, there is no Cross, no answer to the problems of sin, separation, failure and pain. Advent is a time to think about what life would be like if we didn’t have faith in a Redeemer, a Savior who was ready, willing and able to complete the broken arc of our lives, forgive what is past and walk with us step by step to help us build something better in the time that is left.

I'm not sure which is scarier - the collapse or the way it is being completely ignored.

Towards the end of the Empire, the Roman middle class was crushed out of existence by taxes and regulations. It literally ceased to exist - becoming slaves then peasants.

That comment is wrong on so many levels. While demographics meant that slavery was doomed as long as the Republic endured, slavery only ended after a long and bloody Civil War.

There is a tradition at the white house that goes back several administrations of having christmas trees all over the place in addition to the official one in the blue room.

I think anyone doing rudimentary research would find that 50+ christmas trees is not something unique to the Obama administration.

The place does seem to also have a role as a national historic treasure, so some level of seasonal decor would make it of a character with the top national-trust houses in Britain.

Gotta agree; I've been in the W.H. during the holidays (Clinton Admin.) and the seasonal decor was maxed out - though I didn't count the trees. Michelle O.'s had her share of Antoinette moments, but can't single her out on this one.

While America suffers under the effects of the financial meltdown that occurred under a Democrat Party administration in 2008, Obama is living in a 132-room, 55 thousand square foot mansion with 35 bathrooms. Appalling!

One wonders if the day will arrive when one is required to fill one's vehicle with an engine harming fuel?

Would it not be a devious way to force people out of their cars and lessen the carbon footprint?

That persecution of Christians is Islam's fatal flaw is a fantasy based on the conversion of the Romans. All postmodern ideologies: Socialism, Islam, Feminism, Homosexuality agree that Christians are the enemy and must be destroyed..
