We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Antarctic sea ice: Nobody cares! It's much too far from NYC and the BosWash corridor. But the Arctic ice is shrinking! Teh Horror; the horror.
I think it's been 20 years since I first heard "we have only 10 years to save the world".
Hurricanes less frequent? PROOF of AlGorebal Worming!
Dewey and his ilk (first time I got to use that word; I'm so happy!): Those who know they know better than the rest of us know that they can't convince us of that, and so have to use subversive techniques.
Is The Daily Beast changing its spots?
Garbage attack on Mitt--Like tossing a softball to Babe Ruth.
Univision: doing the job that Americans refuse to do.
The American taxpayer will never have official victim status.
Soooo. . . let's see now . . . you lifted no hand to help stop the takeover and destruction of the Episcopal church and now you wonder why it is that the same people now feel free to take down the last remaining obstacle to their unfettered freedom to be "change agents" and design a nation's future according to their limited thinking skills. WHERE THE HELL WERE YOU?
Might I also suggest that this group of destroyers (change agents) are the first generation whose parents did not attend church on a regular basis. These kids grew up without a clue as to the rigor of a disciplined faith. WITH ABSOLUTELY no experience or understanding why CHURCH and State should've remained separate Good luck !
[F]or Dewey the relation between science and technology is unproblematic, even definitive, whereas for Emerson the power manifested in technology and its attendant concepts of intelligence and power and change and improvement are in contest with the work... of realizing the world each human is empowered to think. For an Emersonian, the Deweyan is apt to seem an enlightened child, toying with the means of destruction, stinting the means of instruction, of provoking the self to work; for the Deweyan the Emersonian is apt to look, at best, like a Deweyan. pp15-16
Re the 2007 speech: I have to admit that, when I watch the business about New York and New Orleans, I don't get that he's pandering to blacks so much as that he's pandering to the South, and he's playing directly to my own prejudices. There's not a trace of doubt in my mind that Washington DC and the MSM are completely obsessed with the East Coast and couldn't care less about the Gulf Coast. It's the Flyover Country mindset.
Not that I don't think he had in mind the black/white pandering as well, but there are better examples of that approach.
