Children Protest Against Michelle Obama's Fast

Killing some time before preparing my last meal........that is, the last meal before fasting for Yom Kippur until tomorrow night, I looked for videos about fasting at Youtube. I came across this parody video about the semi-fast imposed on our school children by Michelle Obama. Her "brainchild" is the national school lunch policy, limiting calories and pushing foods that children often don't care for.

Children protest that they are being starved. OK, a bit of exaggeration from the younguns, but not too far off the mark for growing kids and teens' needs. Here's their video:

I still think their parents should feed them and schools should get out of the lunch business altogether.

Dear Mr. Kessler--I commend you on your loyalty to your religious traditions. But, I must remind you that this is the 13th time I have asked you and or another male in your community to come forward and help repair the damage corrupt members of your community have done to my family. Thirteen times I have asked Mr. Kessler and still not one man in your community has had the courage to step forward to stop this horrible wrong that a few are committing. Please remind yourself this holiday that not all Jewish people are good and some have a great capacity for evil--like any tribe, or community. Ask yourself what you will do to repair the damage. I should keep my mouth shut, but I can't, as this is a bit too much.

What is it that you are asking about, faculty wife? As I haven't noticed the other thirteen times you mention (were they all made here, at MF), though I read comments here assiduously.

Your comment here, tonight, would require an enormous and substantial amount of fact to make it even a possibility, much less remotely believable. Just a suggestion, you might try rethinking the matrix of the persecution you seem to be enduring.

I hear that the Secret Service nixed a visit by Michele Obama to a kindergarten. They don't feel they could adequately protect her from a hundred ravenous 5-yr olds should they learn she's the one who took their cookies away from them. They're biters, you know.

I worked in a private school cafeteria for two years. For school lunches, you have three goals: Cheap, nutritious, and enjoyable. Pick any two.

Food that is cheap and nutritious won't be enjoyable.
Food that is cheap and enjoyable won't be nutritious.
* Food that is nutritious and enjoyable won't be cheap.

To argue otherwise is to defy reality, but that's been a support timber for the Democrats since their leftist fringe took over the party.

Hope you had a meaningful and easy fast, Bruce. Outside of the fasting, I actually love Yom Kippur...prayers are beautifully written and poetic...if good tunes or a good cantor is singing and using traditional tunes (I'm very old-fashioned musically in my synagogue music tastes), it can make for a moving religious experience....something as simple as the lines about the sun setting and it is near the last chance to repent...there is a gorgeous tune and I nearly always cry during it (which, ironically, may be helped by the fasting that enables me to go into moods of real kavanah...prayer with intent...more than any other time of year.

Sorry to digress. Hope you had similar experiences.

Watching these kids and the videos? Gives me hope for the younger generation! They aren't all little committed "Young Pioneers" or "Hitler Youth" quite yet. Some seem to have some independent minds and smart and funny thoughts. So, a bit of optimism after watching that, for the New Jewish Year.
