We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Another favorite film, "The Wind and the Lion", he made a great Berber Sheik with a Scottish accent.

Somehow, we (me anyway) like the Scots accent, even when horribly disguised as Russian. In a dire situation it implies seriousness of thought, purpose, and intense focus on the threat. Good things.
Agreed. A great movie that I stop to watch every time it appears on some cable channel.
I should not admit this, but I like Alec Baldwin as an actor. He is also very good in "Malice" playing an egomaniacal surgeon. "Thick as Thieves" and "Glengarry Glen Ross" are a couple of others where he acts well.
As long as I don't think about his political or child-raising views, I can enjoy his work
I agree with you and the other commenters about Baldwin's acting and his politics, but the thing for me was that he fit my image of Jack Ryan far better than Harrison Ford did. I think they lost something with the switch. Not sure how he would have done with the fight scene at the beginning of Patriot Games though. Could he have been convincing as a former Marine? He's a good enough actor that I think the answer is probably yes.

Baldwin was crazy not to continue making movies as Jack Ryan. Obviously his career is just fine, but wow did he dump a golden opportunity.
