We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
We have a President in charge right now, who writes to me several times a week begging for three dollars.
But He cannot explain why He should win His re-election. He cannot form a list of bullet points, or even a single bullet point, to explain how that helps anyone but Him, and, I suppose, the people who directly benefit from His victory. He’s in charge of America but He cannot explain why He is good for America.
The truth is that no one can preserve Medicare as we know it. There isn’t a prayer that your father’s Medicare will be around in 10 years. There is a legitimate policy debate going on about the direction we will have to go with it.
There is just plain going to be less money to spend on senior health care than there would have been if we let the program continue on its present unsustainable track. Health care providers and patients are going to have less money.
Richard Muller: Look – global warming is real and it’s caused by humans... The problem is that we expect, with the continued emissions, particularly in the developing world, particularly based on coal, that this will go much higher. And, based on what we have done in my group, I expect that to happen. And I expect it to get much, much warmer than it's ever been, during the era of homo sapiens.
"The truth is that no one can preserve Medicare as we know it."
Make no mistake, one day in the near future your doctor will deny you critical health care because of the cost. At the same time in a 1000 cities across the U.S. illegal aliens will be receiving free health care. The Democrats have placed their future in the hands of 20 million illegal aliens who will someday become voters and will raise 100 million little voters. That is the constituency that is important to them, not you, not grandma. There are only two possible ways to avoid this: 1) For all conservatives to have as many children as they can and teach them to vote against the freeloaders and Democrats (sorry for the redundancy). 2) To vote the bastards out and implement real and effective policies to identify and deport illegals. This November may be your last best chance to do something.
When Romney selected Ryan for VP, I exhaled for the first time in years. Perhaps we have someone, regardless of political party, who can explain the disaster before us if we don't STOP SPENDING somebody-else's-money. I guess it's China's buck now. Tomorrow, Dubai?
You have explained it well. I just hope voters are paying attention.
"Hanson suggests that liberals feel that they are morally superior, doing God’s work, and therefore do not have to obey the rules..." That's the way they act. They tell us we should have smaller houses and not produce CO2 and drive SUVs. As an intelligent man said and repeats, "I will believe them when I see them acting as they tell us to act."
I've been to the Frick once and was thunderstruck by one painting in particular - the portrait of Sir Thomas More. I've never been so taken by a painting.
The article about the place was a typical piece of liberal history distortion though. Frick was a tough business man but his work helped make the country an industrial powerhouse and raised the standard of living for all. Was just reading about in him in "The Patriot's Guide to American History" which corrects much of the misconceptions we're taught about that period in particular.
As to Hansen's piece, I check Al Gore's electricity prices for his huge home. He's paying 8 cents a kilowatt hour for TVA power made with 50% coal and 50% nuclear and soaks up billions in federal subsidies while we here in California are so green and pay 25 cents a kw-hr.
