We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Bird Dog: New Study Thoroughly Debunks Global Warming
Um, no, it didn't.
The study only concerned summer months in Scandinavia. Orbital forcing is reduced at lower latitudes, so the study doesn't represent the global mean temperature change.
More important, it doesn't impact the basic science of greenhouse warming. The Earth has gone through many climatic changes, but the current changes are being caused by human activities, and the warming trend is expected to continue as long as humans continue to emit greenhouse gases.
The US and the several States should regulate marriage the way some European countries do.
The actual legally-binding marriage contract is granted by the government, usually by the equivalent of a Justice of the Peace. Ministers, priests and rabbis do not have the legal authority to grant a marriage contract. The religious rite is entirely separate from the marriage contract and while the rite sanctifies the marriage it does not create it.
With this change, fears that ministers et al would be required to "marry" gays, lesbians, whatever simply go away. This would also be true in the religious groups maintained by the military.
I hope this Troll doesn't fly. I flew air transport for years, and can tell you from bitter experience that airplanes can be flown safely, "if best practice and effective regulation are enforced", bur are sure as hell dangerous if best practice and effective regulation are not enforced.
I don't think it's fair to call Z a troll. He's more like a devil's advocate. I think he's accurately describing his own fervently held belief system rather than making silly, provocative statements for the mere purpose of inciting a reaction, which is what I take a troll's strategy to be. I appreciate the fact that he keeps things pretty impersonal. I fault him only for his tendency to fall back on vague, canned, repetitive arguments when he hasn't got an immediately relevant response. I swear I could draft most of his comments myself in advance.
Not on today's menu, but then again how often do the details of the Clinton's relationship with Russia come into focus? Montana has seen a noticeable influx of Russians in the past several years. Now why in the H do the Russians end up in MT--well now let's see let me count the ways the democrats are trying to take control of this state: sex at the university; the purchase (forced sale) of a large national trucking company that was built and managed here for many years by a young Russian "entrepreneur"; and now ladies and gentlemen the best part yet - - -
