Eye Direction and Lying.

It's not a polygraph, and complicated by left-handed and ambidextrous people and left-eyed people.

Do you know how to determine whether you are left- or right-eyed? Roll up a sheet of paper like a telescope, and see which eye you put it to. Most people have a dominant eye. Shooters care about this.

Shooters do care. I'm left-eye dominant but a right-handed shooter.Not that big a deal using shotguns, but it can be annoying when I'm shooting a non-scoped rifle or target shooting with pistols. Never annoying enough to try to shoot left-handed, though, or stay right-handed and train myself to shoot accurately using the left eye, as some folks do.

believe me, its a huge deal with shotguns, since both eyes should be open to reduce eye strain.

I'm a right-handed shot and left eye dominant, and I've tried a number of ways of "blinding" the left eye. a piece of tape over the shooting glasses works (for the moment).

Well, I was speaking for myself - most of my shotgunnery has involved knocking down quail, dove & ducks & the left eye doesn't bother me much there. If I had to shoot with the consistency of a competitive trap shooter, I might feel differently!!

It's funny you mention both eyes open - when I was a kid I used to close the left eye when aiming; at some point I stopped doing that. Don't remember anybody instructing me to do it. These days in a hunt, especially quail hunting, I'm not even really conscious of aiming at all, and I'm told I'm a good shot.

I'm going to see whether this works with President Pinocchio. He's a lefty, so if his eyes shift to his left, i.e., the viewer's right, that's a "tell" he's lying.

Once AI is built into ones glasses, etc., lying will be detectable in real time.
Husbands, beware.

I look for lip movement.

Then I know they're lying.

I really don't think this applies to pathological liars or people completely out of touch with reality....both of which apply to obama.

The "eye movement" theory may apply to amateurs, who usually give their behavior away in other, more creative ways, but the truly professional liars will look you straight in the eye and lie like a rug. Good grief.

This eye-tracking for lie detection has been studied extensively by Ekman and colleagues: Doesn't work. To put it simply. See ekman's Emotions revealed, in which he reviews the evidence. Also, polygraphy is easily defeated/deceived by those who know, and also give false positives by anxious innocent people.

Really good liars --say, the Bill Clinton or Obama types --are good actors, and they simply play someone who is telling the truth.

I'd bet that such a talent has to be learned young --and in a dangerous environment --of abusive adults (Clinton and Obama both qualify). And then these core-corrupted manipulator/savants grow up hungry for power. Wonder what the connection is --desire for revenge against the world? Hell that fits like a glove.
