We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
The sense of entitlement, and the lack of a sense of reality in this NYT union-sponsored vid is astonishing to me.
Haven't these people ever heard of "saving money" and "investing money"? They almost sound like petulant children.
Do these people imagine that anybody gets pensions anymore, except for some government employees and some unions? Sheesh. Normal people haven't gotten pensions for decades. Mead discusses here.
I'm not sure why the New York Times exists, to be quite frank. It's no longer a legitimate news outlet. It's simply a mouthpiece for the dying liberal establishment--which unfortunately has spent itself (and us) into national bankruptcy. Perhaps the Times is destined to be one of the casualties, but it's not going to be missed in most of the country.
What I love about this story is seeing the people who run the NY Times crashing up against the reality of defined-benefit pension plans as soon as they're on the side that has to cough up the money. "Do you know, we've been looking into this, and these defined-benefit plans are kind of crazy! If we have a declining base of workers, why, they'll never be able to contribute enough of their future earnings to keep up with the demands of the huge pool of retirees. We need to think about a 401k model instead! It's just good public policy!"
