Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Proposed Connecticut “Cyber-Harassment” Law

I came across this gemas a result of reading through the comments.

Fell off my chair laughing (figuratively not literally).

Anyway, just more nonsense by idiots who have nothing better to do other than tell everybody else how to behave.

Morons. Oh - wait - is that cyber-harrassement?

Being a lady, much less a First Lady, is evidently an awful strain for some women. Drudge Reports has a story today about Michelle Obama who took her daughters to Las Vegas this past week, and was photographed in what this old fashioned lady would hardly call an appropriate garment for the First Lady of the land to appear in. Anywhere. No, it was not a dress, or a frock. It was a strange assemblage of skin tight pants, a short thigh-length kilt open down the front over the skin tight pants, and a silver lame bodice. As it was constructed, there was far too much of the Essential Michelle on display for my comfort, although I must admit the showgirls in Las Vegas do wear similar costumes. But I don't go to Las Vegas.

Evidently, the Obamas not only fired the White House protocol advisors when they took over, they refused to accept advice on what was appropriate for the President and First Lady to wear while fulfilling their duties.
I would suggest that Michelle save the more raunchy of her costumes for after November, when I pray we won't have to think about her again, for a while.

It's the hood, MM. Previously and normally constrained to a few Chicago neighborhoods. Now it's a country wide hood to strut upon, and strut she will.

Has the obligatory reference to "climate change'

'The rising sea levels are turning the delta saltier, rendering some of the water undrinkable."

Perhaps the best solution (at least in the near term) to the problem is not to price water artificially cheap? Price water to reflect its scarcity and let the price ration supply.

Back in '99, as a newly landed resident of one of those cities, I wrote a letter. A letter addressed to the titular 'head' of the local water department.

I suggested that, in a forward looking manner, our city should begin negotiations to the south, specifically with Puerto Penasco or Rocky Point in Mexico.

Such negotiations would center around a solar powered desalinization plant that would benefit both cities, with no financial obligations upon the smaller city, just availability of land.

I projected it would cost several, or more, billions of dollars to construct. But that in the end it would be worth every penny.

I, of course, never heard a word back.

One could say I never heard back because I'm an idiot. That's acceptable.

One could also say that that I wrote to short sighted fools, who's lifeblood comes from the scant aquifer and the Colorado river. Neither guaranteed sources.

Clean water will only become a problem when we allow it to become a problem.

A problem that can only be solved by government.

Versus the cutting loose of capitalist engineers.

My child at Dartmouth pointed out that all if Lohse's allegations have been dismissed by the discipline dean as proven false by way of "physical evidence". The child also points out that Lohse has taken a long term medical leave from school and will not graduate. From the Valley News we learn he has taken up residence in Vermont at a "writers collective" where he is working upon his memoirs

While Dartmouth fraternities may in fact have the attributes Lohse describes it appears he has no actual evidence. A hat tip to that effect is that Rolling Stone names no names, ie, no one who might sue them.
