We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
What is un-natural is your idea of quaint. Lema's was a dump. For those of us who live in Wellfleet, we appreciate the Wellfleet Marketplace. Clean, pretty well stocked, open everyday, all year. Have you been in the Lighthouse lately? All fixed up, brand new comfortable bar, same owner, so don't fret about your precious muffin. Open when nothing else in town is. We appreciate that too. The Bookstore hasn't changed much. Still as great as ever. We in Wellfleet are sorry if we have offended you. Maybe it's time for you to find a real rundown town to visit.
I was not dumping on the Lighthouse, and was a regular there for more years than I care to remember. I even remember Alice's Restaurant a few doors down.
A lot of changes to downtown Wellfleet were for the better. Candle Factory into new library. Box Lunch when it first opened. Etc.
And I actually did live there for a time (even graduated from Nauset High).
