We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I think the arab spring is delivering to their people what their people desired. When you look at the polls of the egyptians at the start of the protests, they WANT to be ruled by hardline sharia. They WANT the west, with all of its money, out of their lives. The polls in these places show that the people really and truly WANT what the hardline muslim brotherhood is intending to give them. And, if the West is not willing to acknowledge that fact, then all is lost. It might not make sense to the West, but it is a fact that they really and truly are willing to live in the distant past.....it is a false memory that they embrace.
Tesla Motors' lineup of all-electric vehicles — its existing Roadster, almost certainly its impending Model S, and possibly its future Model X — apparently suffer from a severe limitation that can largely destroy the value of the vehicle. If the battery is ever totally discharged, the owner is left with what Tesla describes as a "brick": a completely immobile vehicle that cannot be started or even pushed down the street. The only known remedy is for the owner to pay Tesla approximately $40,000 to replace the entire battery. Unlike practically every other modern car problem, neither Tesla's warranty nor typical car insurance policies provide any protection from this major financial loss.
I did research years ago that showed Iranian missiles already in existence could reach large parts of the US from launch sites in Venezuela. The Mullahs and chavez have been buddies for years - and Iran built a cement plant and a tractor plant in Venezuela. Cement for missile silos and a tractor plant covering for missile building?
What is the average length of time necessary for a M.D. degree? How many years from the time one receives a B.A to the time one is considered an MD? Is there a difference between an MD in the field of Pathology and a MD in the field of General Medicine? Thank you,
I'm offended at the use of the term "Bastard Nation."
There was (and perhaps is) an organization by that name fighting for the rights of adoptees to learn about their past.
Virtually all states have closed records, for no other reason than, "It's been done that way."
Adoptee rights are not sexy, they're not very much in the news. There are lots of groups out there explaining why their oppressed. While I can't speak for every adoptee, I don't think it's asking too much to be able to access my birth records.
re. sex scribbler Katie Roiphe in the Bastard Nation link. She is obviously wondering whether she has made the right life choices. When her bastards grow up, move many states away, and become part of the nuclear families of their spouses, she will know.
I have three, middle-aged sons-in-law from "non-traditional" families. They have long been part and parcel of our close knit family, virtual sons. According to them and their wives, they rarely if ever are in contact with their own parents or siblings.
Our fourth long-time son in law, from a traditional family, is still very much attached to his surviving mother and siblings. He obviously prefers their company to ours, which doesn't bother us a bit.
