Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

First of all, what happened to the boat? Did a flour truck explode in front of your house? What's all that white stuff? :>)
Ahem... Environmentalism and the Leisure Class Well duh. They can afford to pay $5/gal for gas, they can heat and air condition their palaces using megawatts of electricity - killing projects like Keystone XL has a minimum impact on their lives personally, professionally or economically. And their opinions count because they are in touch wit the human spirit. Pah... Of interest below that article though was this: Nattering nabobs of Newtism. A great explanation of how it all happened and Romney's problems in the greater scheme of things. Personally, I think Romney's problems with conservatives has nothing to do with Romneycare, his moderate stances or his flip flopping. I think it is his being Mormon that did it to him in SC. There was a choice among the conservative Christians in SC and they chose the Catholic over the Mormon. The reason is that they don't realize that Newt is a converted Catholic. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Jay Carney This is a communnications curiosity that I've noticed over the past five/six years among the liberal politicians and their media enablers. They honestly think that they can convince the citizens that black is white contrary to all evidence. This recent trip is a perfect example. Flies to Florida, makes an obvious campaign speech, back to New York for four or five campaign fund raisers, then back home to DC, but that is not a campaign trip just because they say is wasn't. The great thing is that finally they are being held accountable for this obvious prevarication. ...Half way to getting a buzz on here in Mauritius on Sunday night of a three day weekend, I think much of the problem is the reduction in the return on effort. Taxes and regulations, along with unemployment and things such as food stamps, make working and being alert less valuable. Compound that with the reduced penaltis of being effed up and you have everybody stoned.
...People in this part of the world seem to think having the credential is more important than actually knowing how to do anything. ...on the Keystone pipeline deal, I Want a New Left discusses "Blue Collar Impact Statements" that should carry as much political weight as environmental statements. His last line: "For this and various other reasons, I say that environmentalists are Enemies of the People." Drunk is how humans deal with living in a socialist utopia, just ask the Russians or the Brits.
What we need is a bit of individualism and freedom to pursue happiness. Making sure you have the new cover sheet on your TPS report or trying to navigate the mandarins to get permission to sell you creation, will drive you to drink. The economy might have come out of the recession but the American people still suffer from depression. I'm as eager as the next guy to criticize the administration and the Pentagon for cuts to training and operations funding for the Army. (I've been on the losing side of that particular transaction. In 1979, on a major field exercise, we "ran out of gas".)
But this article about cutting training for trigger pullers isn't what one might think. All they are writing about is that Benning is reducing the number of expected training slots. Wake me when the Army is hollow again. Then we can swap stories. Oh, and can we reduce staffing at the Pentagon and major commands by say 25% before we start de-activating combat battalions. It's been a while and I don't remember where I saw it originally but a news story made the rounds some time last year about upper crust universities getting so many Asian Americans (when can we all just be Americans) that they were limiting how many could enroll, so the word was if you had any caucasian blood at all to apply as being white. And isn't our president half white?
I remember not very long ago when Elena Kagan was appointed to the Supremes, she smugly described herself as "a wise Latina" and the first Hispanic Supreme Court Justice. How soon they forget. What about Supreme Court Justice Cardozo, a distinguished member of the Court back in the 1930s. Aren't we supposed to include him? Or doesn't being Spanish count?
When Sarah Palin entered the public consciousness and her presence brought about the ugliest backlash I've ever seen, some people accused her of being 'raacist'. How can she be accused of that since her husband Todd is part Yupik Eskimo, and therefore her five children are also. Or isn't that an acceptable ethnic group for the dotty liberals to inveigh against? Doesn't fit the "diversity profile" the moonbat liberals work so hard at. Marianne |
