We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Sam, I don't much care for liver either, but I do enjoy foie gras. A lot. It doesn't taste anything like the liver that is part of the classic liver and onions dish my dad would have when I was young.
I must say I don't like the production method of force feeding geese to produce it either, which may or may not be the only way.
Maybe a new market? "humanely produced foie gras" :)
Recently, having fried turkey livers in butter with salt, pepper, diced garlic and a splash of Pinot Noir, it occurred to me I've been missing something special. I sliced the liver and threw it into a pan with caramelized sweet onions and two eggs, over-easy, for good measure.
If you're concerned about an overwhelming liver flavor, you can soak the meat in a brine solution in the fridge for 15 to 30 minutes. That will take some out of the blood from the offal and mellow the flavor.
I've never eaten Foie Gras, though it's on my must-try list. I hope the ninnies don't ruin it for us all with their misguided moral preening.
"...is not something I want on my plate." This statement by the animal activist is typical of all liberals. If I don't want it on my plate YOU should be prevented from having it on YOUR plate by force of law. The willingness to control the lives of others knows no greater or lesser bounds. There is nothing too small or too large to control from salt, french fries and Happy Meals to General Motors, you name it. This from those inclusive, diverse, caring folks.
Liberalism is the antithesis of democracy. It is a religious disease that creates in it's believers the need to control the rights and actions of others to the greatest extent possible and to grow government to the extent necessary to enforce their beliefs.
The statement by a commenter here that "I will defend to the death to your right to eat it" is typical of conservatives. Conservatives believe in freedom and individual rights. They believe in the right of all to be left alone.
What most animal lovers don't consider is that, if we humans were to stop raising and caring for the tens of millions of animals we eat, who would keep them alive?
i am so happy that people like you guys exist! freedom to choose what I eat!!
I am so aggravated by hateful animal activist who want to make this product illegal. they should really focus on disgusting factory farming instead of 3 small artisinal farms that produce this product in America!
yay to freedom! yay to animal husbandry! yay to great food!!!
