We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
All animals share a bit of DNA called a hox box. So, if Mesodinium chamaeleon has a hox box it's an animal. If it doesn't, it's something else. Photosynthesis doesn't count. Corals are animals that live primarily off the photosynthate produced by their symbiotic algae.
That was interesting. Kind of makes you wonder what else we haven't found yet at the bottom of the ocean.

So the EPA is taking 9% of the total national generating capacity of an already overburdened supply chain off line and NOBODY IS SCREAMING BLOODY MURDER!?!?!
Seriously? If I were Governor of West Virginia or Virginia, I'd tell the EPA to bend over and screw themselves - ain't gonna do it until I have something to replace it with.
Obama rejects the pipeline? Does this come as a surprise to anyone? Before the holiday recess last month, Congressional Republicans proudly declared victory in having forced Obama to make a decision on the pipeline within 60 days. And for that "victory" they caved on every demand the Democrats made to extend unemployment benefits and reduce payroll taxes for Social Security and Medicare, for the first time in history allowing contributions to the two so-called trust funds to be taken from general tax revenues in order to make up for the shortfall in employee contributions.
Did the Republicans not expect Obama to reject the pipeline and to blame them for forcing him to do so? And did they really, Really, REALLY think labor unions and their members would abandon the Democrats and vote Republican because of that?
Congressional Republicans are truly the Dumb Party. They don't deserve---and are too dangerous---to be in charge of this country any more than the Democrats. The Democrats have put the nation on the highway to ruin out of ideology; the Republicans have put us on a road to the same destination out of cowardice and stupidity. Sorry, Republicans, but I've decided to take a different footpath and go in a different direction. We part company here.
There is no practical difference between Republicans and Democrats - none what so ever.
It is all a smoke screen - all the posturing, all the posing, all the "obstruction" is nothing more than an effort to mask the fact that politicians of both parties want to control everything.
