We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
How did the ancient mass media report the alleged birth of Christ? The People's Cube prepared the following compilation of quotes from the Roman and Judean sources, which should help our readers to form an unbiased opinion of what really happened in the days surrounding the so-called Christmas...
Uh, the Immaculate Conception refers to Mary's creation, not that of Jesus. God decided that Mary must be free of original sin in anticipation of her giving birth to our Savior. As the prayer tells us, "Oh, Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee."
This is a common misunderstanding by many non-Catholics as well as many adherents to the mysteries of the Church of Rome. As for JC, He is the incarnation of God, so original sin would be impossible for Him to have, being conceived by the Holy Spirit and all. John the Baptist did baptize Him just to be on the safe side, though.
Still, it is humorous that nearly half of inner city women claimed to have been immaculately conceived. Who knew? heh.
